    Re: Fire in Orange County

I just read on the OC register page that it was started by an abandoned car that caught on fire and they believe it may have been a stolen car! Makes me so mad!

Estimated 1,000 acres now! It's out of control...
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Wow is it still going? I was busy painting my mom's old house with no tv to listen to the news.. all I know is a few of my friends were evacuated from their houses.

Btw to the person who asked if Disneyland was evacuated.. no it was not.. I would have been evacuated if it had been since I'm next door lol.

Here's some pictures of the Corona fire.

This picture is taken from the road we live off of.

This is from the shopping center, it's about 4 miles from our home.

This is about 2 hours later from the same shopping center.

This one was taken from a new development just behind the shopping center.

    Re: Fire in Orange County

When we came home from church at 11:15 am, the smoke was still not too significant and I remember thinking that if some helicopters jumped on that fire immediately it might not get out of control. I also noticed that there was only a light breeze at the time.

By the time I started this thread, the winds had kicked up to what felt like 40 or 50 miles an hour and I knew that meant trouble.

That on top of the fact that the relative humidity today was down to 8 percent. (Did you hear that Floridians? EIGHT PERCENT!! )

By the time we left for a visit to the inlaws, the smoke was looking very scary indeed. I didn't get much of the news coverage, but they lost at least two structures if not more. We had a similar fire last year and I remember being at Disneyland when the ashes began to fall because of the smoke.

I doubt Disneyland would ever be in any real danger from a wildfire as these hills are a good 10 miles or so away, but the smoke can be a real pain. The wind has died down tonight, so maybe they'll get a handle on it before they lose any more homes.

I was telling my wife it would be a good idea to have water dropping helicopters stationed at dozens of locations throughout LA and Orange counties. If four or five helicopters jumped on this early, it would have been out by 11:30 am. I remember reading how San Diego was screaming for helicopters a few years ago and there just weren't any. This was before they lost what? 2500 homes?

Yes it would cost maybe a couple hundred million. But how much did that San Diego fire cost? We're still paying for it with out insurance rates.

    Time to write the governator.
