Re: Postal Rates Going Up AGAIN

Yuo can't pay everything online. But I should get off my lazy butt and at least pay the ones I can

BTW the "good news" for us is that price per additional ounce is going down a few, maybe 7? cents. So that'll be a tad cheaper. But catalogs and magazines will have rates increase A LOT!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Re: Postal Rates Going Up AGAIN

There are 1 cent, 2 cent, and for the new increase there will be 3 cent stamps to bridge the gap.

The current ounce increase hovers around .25 (.39 then .63 then .88 then 1.11, etc). It's decreasing significantly, like the other poster said. I don't remember if it's as good as 7 cents but I'm sure it's not more than 17. So even though the first ounce is .42, the next ounce will be somewhere around .57 (See the decrease from .63?). *

Once I get a conclusive chart from the post office for the business, I'll post it here if no one else has gotten a hold of the same information.

Edit*: The only information I've been provided is a complicated chart for the USPS's use as well as reports. So, once I'll get a user friendly edition, that's what I'll share.

Oh, thank god I resisted my impulse to buy the stamps for my wedding invites early. Something was telling me to hold off a bit. *Whew* Dodged a bullet on that one.

When are your announcements going out? There's some beautiful stamps featured exactly for that purpose. This picture doesn't really do them justice but here's the link.

There's the purple .39 and the green .63. Mail them the last day possible. It's never too early to announce!

They're really popular at our store just as regular stamps.

Re: Postal Rates Going Up AGAIN

The issue I have with rates going up (not to get too technical) is the last time they went up it was because the Federal Government was going to make the USPS hold a $500 Million Dollar bond for something or another and they said if they were going to make that happen, they woudl have to raise rates. The governmet in the end changed their minds, and they raised the rates anyway!

I understand raising first clss mail since its declining, as others have said due to competition of email and online bill payments.

The biggest issue, is raising rates, will continue to decline usage of this media. For instance, for some bulk rate direct mail depending on the mailer, prices could go up as much as $0.04 to $0.07 a piece even in very highly carrier route sorted mailings. For many marketers this will move the acquisition costs above what they can afford for the sale, pushing their marketing efforts to more cost effective media, like the online world.

That puts a lot of people I know out of a job...
