I saw some smoke, but it didn't look like it could be that far seeing as I'm about 40 miles from Universal City.

    What channel?!?!?!

EDIT: You can see it here: http://www.nbc4.tv/index.html

A eyewitness is saying that kids playing with fireworks is the likely cause of the fire.

Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."

Yea the smoke is pretty bad looking from Tarzana. And from what I can see on tv the flames are really close to structures in the Cahuenga Pass. Hope they can contain it before someone loses a home.

    Re: Universal City Fire

I was wondering what all of the smoke was from. I've been hearing helicopters for the last few hours. I'm in Burbank right now and the sky's all grey with smoke. Ick.

    Post Hollywood is on fire

Just across the street from Burbank, a major wildfire has been raging in the Hollywood Hills...

Smoke blowing over to Warner Bros, Disney and ABC. But no structures, homes or people are in danger.

Brush fire erupts in the Hollywood Hills

By Tony Barboza, Andrew Blankstein and Rong-Gong Lin II,
    LA Times
    March 30, 2007

A brush fire erupted this afternoon in the Hollywood Hills near the Oakwood Apartment complex, darkening the sky with thick plumes of smoke visible through much of the city.

At least six helicopters and some 200 firefighters rushed to battle the blaze, reported about 12:50 p.m. around the 3600 block of Barham Boulevard, near Universal City, said Ron Myers of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

About 15 acres were burned, said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Antoine McKnight.

There was no immediate impact on traffic but there could be problems as the weekend commute began. Some local roads were shut to help firefighters.

Initially, the fire threatened the Oakwood apartments, often used by aspiring entertainers as a temporary home while they sought their fortune.

The fire came within 50 feet of the parts of the Oakwood parking lot. Apartment maintenance workers helped wet down the hillside while managers switched on sprinklers on the roofs of the apartment buildings and on the hillside.

Many residents stood in the parking lot watching the flames. Some shot video, others snapped photos.

Two students from the New York Film Academy were filming a drama at one of Oakwood apartments when a member of the crew announced the fire.

Moments later, one of the students, Victorino Lee Sanghee, went outside to check the fire and noticed it was now engulfing the hillside and was quickly moving downhill.

"Everyone was sort of freaked out," Sanghee said. "Still, we filmed the whole thing with our camera."

By 3 p.m., the fire had moved away from the buildings into open terrain, Capt. McKnight said.

The fire had earlier also threatened the Warner Bros. studio and the remote brush roughly near Mt. Lee. The landmark Hollywood sign is nearby, and just to the south of that are heavily populated neighborhoods....

9 miles from where I work. Crazy.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
