    What's in Your Easter Basket?

I think I start this thread every year!

I'm at a loss this year--I'm usually done looooong before this.

My six year old is dying for some new earrings, so I'm thinking earrings would be good in her basket. Also, princess bandaids. She's always bugging me for them and I put them in once years ago, and she was so thrilled.

My 8 year old wants Orbit gum. I heard her telling my 12 year old that she is "dying for some." That's easy....but what else?

And my 12 year's birthday just passed and she has gift cards for everything right now: Urban Outfitters, Gap, the movies, Starbucks, Powell's books, and Target. Ugh. I need to pick out something cool for her, but I'm stuck.

I'm trying to think of some CDs or DVDs that would be good gifts, but I can't think of any! Help!

What's in your basket this year??

    Coal.

    Oh wait, no, that's Christmas.

I guess I'm just old school, or at least my mom is...she just gets us candy and the occasional stuffed bunny or chick (which I'd give to my dog anyway) and that horribly annoying grass that doesn't seem to disappear. This "holiday" is going down the toilet just like Christmas. All commercialized.

Oy. What the heck happened here while I was at Target.

    Okay.

    Fastest Target shopping trip EVER.

    For my six year old:
Hello Kitty shades, swim goggles, Barbie Rapunzel DVD, Lip smackers, nail polish, Hello kitty band aids, sprinkles (she puts them on everything--pancakes, pb&j sandwiches, cookies, hot chocolate) and pink daisy earrings.

    For my 8 year old:
black shades, swim goggles, Jumanji and Muppets Take Manhattan DVDs, Spiderman band aids, 6 packs of Orbit gum.

    For my 12 year old:
1000 piece puzzle, Clueless and Bring it On DVDs, Joss Stone CD, 6 packs of Orbit.

I'm pretty sure there's more for the older two....but I don't remember. Already.

For candy, I got Skittles, Reese's pb eggs, big chocolate bunnies, Hershey's miniatures, and Kisses. And Peeps. But we never eat them. They just sit there and harden.

Put them to good use, throw them in the microwave for 45 seconds and enjoy the bloating festivities!

Re: What's in Your Easter Basket?

    Claire,

I'm telling you - it's so good to not be alone in the world! I too go crazy with stuff at Easter! It has become harder since the birth of the Monkey since his b-day is in March, but I still try to do something super cool fun.

Tink has had her fair share of Tinker Bell themed baskets and one year I did it all arts & crafts stuff (did I mention that I am beyond a dork and it all has to have a theme? Oh, yeah) I think this year I'll use the gimmick that was given to me on the commercial -- eggs...penguins... Happy Feet! She wants the dvd but she also wants the I-cy (the penguin version of the i-dog) so that might be a little more $ than I planned on spending.

For the monkey...I was going to do a potato head theme but I'm getting slow on the uptake here and haven't done my ebay shopping to get the stuff I need from WDW (Peter Pan and Buzz Lightyear Ride stuff among others) so I might have to think of something else quickly!

Candy... usually multiple tubes of mini M&M's to match their basket colors, peeps (she eats them...I do not - I think hubby does too), some kind of chocolate bunny that my MIL will out do with something terribly HUGE and ugly, and robins eggs. Oh, and jelly beans of course!! I love the fun flavors they have now!!

I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

Re: What's in Your Easter Basket?

My aunts and uncles used to make horrible comments about my youngest cousin's Easter basket every year--it was out of control! So many toys and games and videos, etc. He's just a few years older than my oldest daughter, and I always swore I'd never go crazy like that over Easter baskets.

And here we are. I'm still pretty careful. They don't add up to much, but the kids love them.

We have two spring bdays and a near Christmas bday, so I try to get them the things I forgot for the March bday, things my April bday kid has mentioned and my December baby always gets the shaft, giftwise, so it's like a mid-year treat for her.

We don't buy them gifts year-round, so it's a big deal to them.

Re: What's in Your Easter Basket?

So as a fellow crazy person, here's the run down on my kids baskets this year:

9 year old boy: TMNT PS2 video game, need something else (as you will see when I get to little brother's list), a couple of Payday candy bars and some Starburst.

5 year old boy: X-Wing Fighter for the 3.75 inch Star Wars figures (it's huge and I have no idea where we are going to put it), unstuffed Lamb from Build a Bear, Fur Real Pets Lamb, a couple of Kit Kat's and Hershey Bars

What do you do when the little guy picks up the super mega colossal, to steal the most awesome description ever, X-Wing Fighter, holds it to his chest, squeezes his eyes shut and whispers, "I wish Easter Bunny, I wish!" Eee gads, what's an over indulgent parent to do?! (And no, I really don't want the lesson on how to say no to your kids...just PM Tinkermonkey and she can vouch for the fact that I am a fairly decent parent.)

I'm thinking a gift card to Target for the big guy to even things out.
