Sorry to read about how it is going, but as a member I've had bad experiences with Bally's. All I have to say for anyone joining is to READ your contract VERY carefully! If not you'll pretty much have to kill yourself or live in some remote area of the world to get out of it.
Now all I can think of is that episode of Friends where Chandler & Ross keep trying to quit their gym, then decide to close their bank accounts so the gym can't withdraw the monthly fee.

"We want to quit the bank!"

And so I did get those doctors orders - I had messed up my left knee pretty darn well in December 1995. I was undergoing two surgeries during 1996 and I asked the doctor if I could get something from her to use to cancel my membership - since I was paying $30 a month for nothing. She was more than happy to olbige.

I showed Bally's my doctors note.......and they canceled it - or so they said.

FAST FORWARD to 2006. I get a telephone call from some creditor stating they are collecting from Bally's for the remainder of my membership. I explained to them what had happened and the lady on the other end had the nerve to say "Well, you need to get a 2nd opinion from another Doctor". I said, "Lady you're fricken nuts! It happened 10 years ago! How the heck am I supposed to get a second opinion??" I told her I got a docs note, and if needed, would get a copy of the one I got, but that she better not call me again and make my case a closed case - and I never heard from her again.
Ditto for me. My contract was supposed to be up in February 1997. What happens? March they take out money from my account. I close the account and switch banks. They start calling.

And now I'm hearing this to their employees? I'm sorry, it seems to be a theme. If you want to work in a gym, do the YMCA--where you are helping the community at the same time.

That alone would make me move on. I've been to Macy's Plaza and the parking is a hassle to begin with! You don't need that on top of not being trained. I say speak up about this with someone higher up if you want to continue working there (which it doesn't seem like). And if that doesn't help just start making another job search ... if this isn't something you plan on working your way up to the top it isn't worth the aggravation.

While you have the opportunity and chance find a job you love!

THAT HAPPEND TO ME TOO!!! Except mine was within 2 years. I had gotten in a car accident, my orthopedist and chriopractor gave me notes. Then they still charge me. Money hungry idoits!!! The collectors I think are commission based....bottom line, SCREW BALLYS!!! The only Bally's i'll go to is in Vegas and thats cause I like playing craps there...

Now i'm with 24 hour fitness, no contract, no hassel, just SLOW customer service out of corporate, but great gym service!

Bally's is horrible, plain and simple. Some gyms are filthy dirty and with the money they make, horribly updated and maintained!!!
Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."

yeah, i think i'm gonna look for another job, cuz even though if i was trained the people alone seem to have an attitude problem with people even though its not their fault. they should be giving attitude to my manager.

    Re: experience at bally's

I worked for Bally Total Fitness's corporate office for a few years some time ago. I was in their collections department, and I came to believe that Bally's is truly the devil. What an evil, evil corporation. They treat their customers bad and their employees even worse. You would not believe some of the things the sales reps will tell people to get them to sign contracts. It's despicable.
