    Dog Names?

What's your dog's name? Your imaginary dog's name? Cool names you've thought up or heard of? I'll take anything.

The kids and I are planning on getting a dog after we build our new house (the husband wants nothing to do with it), and we don't so much care what kind of dog we get (just small!), or the gender, but we're completely obsessed with the name.

Our cat's name is Lassie and the turtle's name is Spike, so we expect to name our dog something unusual, but not too "doglike."

So far we've come up with:

    Princess Poopy Pants
Stool (makes my 12 year old and I giggle)
    Julius
    Poe
    Quimby
    Klickitat
Spot (if it has no spots)
Socks (if it has no sock marks)
    Whiskers
    Alfie
    Wedgie

None of these names seem quite right....I like Quimby the best. Klickitat second. I always wanted to live in Portland, OR on Klickitat St. like Ramona Quimby in the Beverly Cleary books. We made it to Portland, but we're building...not on Klickitat.

    Re: Dog Names?

Our dogs are named Lincoln and Sawyer. It took us a few days to name them.

One thing you have to do is consider how the name sounds in a 'bad dog voice' yelled across the house. That is something you guys should practice before choosing.

    Re: Dog Names?

Wow, you guys have a great list of potential names!

My family has had quite the number of doggies, as far back as I can remember, they've been...

    Lobo
    Daggit
    Bear
    Petey
Fred (he's the puppy I've got now and I him to pieces!)

    Cats:

    Monster
    Tribble
    Bitty
    Cubby
    Toby
    Phoebe

I think the best names come from when they match with the personality of the animal. I was going to name Fred Oreo, because he's black and white. But the boyfriend's dad, who was a master pet namer, sat and watch Fred play with their dog Hank, and after about 15 minutes said "He's a Fred."

    Re: Dog Names?

One of our dogs "official" name is Convict Lucy Moondoggy but we call her Stink or Pig dog, the other is Boomer and also thanks to my daughter has an "official" name that is several names long but for the life of me I don't remember what they are.

If I could find their Dogster profile...

Thank goodness for IM's and daughters being online!

    Bano was another we liked.

Spanish for bathroom. I don't have the little ~ above the n, but that's how I'm saying it.

    Re: Dog Names?

Wedgie is hilarious!! Having said that, I have to agree with DQ and Miss C. Yell the name a few times and see how it sounds. Will the dog be outside - will you be yelling loud enough for neighbors to hear? Think of how the name sounds! And sometimes, even if you are sure you have a name picked out, the animal might just have different ideas! I once had a cat that was dumped at my mom's school so I thought it would be cute to call it "Hobo" (I was 12, who knows where my logic was...) problem was, we already had a cat named Mr. Bilbo Baggins and "Bilbo" and "Hobo" sounded too similar when calling them. Why did it matter to my mom which cat came? They are CATS for goodness sakes!! But she made me think of a new name. So as I watched the little thing bounce around in the grass, I came up with a winner -- "Bunny"
I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

"Do you remember in kindergarten, how you’d meet a kid,
then 10 seconds later you’d be playing like you were best friends?"

I had a lhasa apso named Rascal. It was a girl but I named her Rascal anyway because she was a little Rascal!

    I loved her.

Our dogs were named Scout and Buddy. Buddy already had the name when we got him, but it so fit him. He was the most easy-going dog.As a kid, we had a dog name Petunia, but her name got shortened down to 'Tuna eventually. How's that for a non-dog named dog?Stink, not Ribsy?

    Re: Dog Names?

Hmm - well, all the dogs that I or my parents had were pretty conventionally named. DH and his family, on the other hand...Reebok, Taco and Ganja stuck out in my mind.

    Re: Dog Names?

I have a dog named Cat, and a cat named Mouse. Don't have a mouse though.

But if I did, I'd name him Cheese.

Catherine the dog and Mickey Mouser the cat. True story.
That was wonderful! Bravo! I loved that! Ah, that was great! Well, it was pretty good. Well, it wasn't bad. Uh, there were parts of it that weren't very good though. It could have been a lot better. I didn't really like it. It was pretty terrible. It was bad. It was awful! It was terrible! Take 'em away! Boo! Boo!
