    Camping Gear

So I've been invited on a camping trip this summer, which I'm pretty excited about. But since I haven't been camping since I was a kid, I'm working on figuring out what to get.

Then it occurred to me that this would make for a fun "shopping thread" for lots of folks who are probably planning to camp this year. Good way to discuss the merits of one tent over another, different types of sleeping bags, etc, as well as help eachother find deals on things.

    So I'll start...

I don't think I'm going to buy it this time around, but the mere fact that this exists, rocks my world. It's a king size inflatable mattress that folds in half to become a raised twin mattress, that has a piece that flips up to make it an inflatable couch!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

    That is really cool!!
My favorite piece of camping equipment is a RV. My parents bought one last year and now I am ruined for ever camping in a tent again!

    You definitely need shower shoes!

Don't forget to take something to keep the fleas and ticks off you. I went camping with a friend of mine in the Wichita Mountains and upon coming home I discovered a deer tick on my side. Thankfully it was already dead, but it freaked me out so much I got a small knife to dig the rest out ... I just didn't want that thing on me anymore.

Plus, if it is in the area you are camping ... Ivy Block is good too. Good for that pesky poison ivy.

    Very good choices.

I make sure to bring those Off Lanterns with me when I go and they keep the bugs out of the tents.
I also bring some Wet Ones or some sort of Personal Wipes. Showers aren't always accommodating so they come in handy.
Disposable utensils come in handy unless you want to bring a camping utensil kit and everything you need to wash them.

Where are you going camping by the way?

If you don't have one, you should get one of those flashlights that do not need batteries. All you do is wind them up and you'll have light.

My parents got a pair at Costco for like $20 and we have them in the house for emergencies if we ever lose power.

My favorite camping accesories are a corkscrew and bottle opener! Some coolers(bacardi) do not have twist tops, and I LOVE to camp in the okanogan wine country and need a corkscrew.

Wow! Coleman is really coming up with good camping furniture.

Do I see cup holders on the arms of that inflatable couch?

My favorite ever camping accessory was CampSoap. You can find it at local sporting good stores and Army surplus shops. It's not only a great hand/body wash, it will leave your hair absolutely silky.

My personal camping essentials (besides the aforementioned items) are an LED headlamp and my Swiss Army knife. The headlamp is much more convenient than a flashlight since it leaves both hands free. And the knife comes in handy for all sorts of things.

You've also got to keep in mind that the last time I went camping was 13 years ago when I was 15 and 7 months pregnant with Paige. So take any of my advice with a grain of salt.

YES! I love my headlamp for camping. Makes it so much easier to do things because you're not trying to do things one-handed. The LED ones are great because they put out a decent amount of light and the batteries last forever. The only drawback is that you don't want to look directly at someone when you have it on - you'll blind them!

DH loves the headlamp too - for when he's working on his computer!

Oh, and yes - can't forget the firewood! Campfires are the best!
    She did it!
