This morning was the walk in Pasadena and it was such an amazing event!
Grumpy4 stayed at my house Friday night so that we could drive to the Rose Bowl together. We got up and were at our parking space by I'd say 8:15, and quickly met up with Demigod and shortly after that Hollywood1939. Clara was there but we didn't see her, and I'm not sure Crystalcastle and her family were there as we didn't see them, but I hope they were able to make it.
We checked in and got our free t-shirts, mozied around the booths they had set up and then watched the opening ceremonies close to the stage front. After some speeches, the walk officially started, and all nearly 10,000 people began the 5k walk!
It started on the west side of the stadium, and then they had us walk around the back of the stadium and then out the east side, and out on some side streets until we ended up back where we started from (basically it was a BIG loop we did from back to the front of the Bowl). We did this 3 times and it really wasn't that bad at all.
It was a little warm and kinda muggy because it had been foggy/hazy early on, but certainly nothing we couldn't handle. Lots of bottled water was being handed out by volunteers so we were all properly hydrated.
I think we were finally complete around 11:30. I was impressed by how the walk was run by everyone. Lots of signage so people wouldn't get lost. Lots and LOTS of volunteers everywhere ready to answer any questions you might have had. Very impressive.
And that was it! It was a great morning and a fantastic way to show our support for a great cause. In fact someone noticed our Team MiceChat logo on our t-shirts and said that they had seen our name on the CAN website and started to even lurk here on the site! We're all famous and stuff!!
I took a few photos and I know H1939 did too. I'm just TOO tired to download them and post tonight. Hopefully in the next couple of days I'll have some time to do that so you call can see how cool it was.
And thank you to everyone that supported us, either monetarily or by your emotional support, because we couldn't have done it without you
