Fullerton Railroad Days Trip Report (Photos: mostly Lego display)

So Talon and I headed up to the Fullerton Railroad Days event today. We didn't stay terribly long due to the heat, but we did breeze through and see a few things:

    "The" train

(Sorry to brag, but isn't that an amazing photograph? I couldn't believe how well it looked when I got it home and saw it full size on my computer!)

    The Kalamazoo handcar:

And that concludes the Disney portion of our tour. The rest of this trip report is brought to you by LEGO! (well, the LEGO train society)

They had a sign up telling you to find certain details within their display (I've marked some with white arrows)

Hmm... what do you supposed they were trying to suggest here?

Another look at that gas station...

I didn't draw an arrow, but you can see the kitten with the soccer ball in this one

    More to come...

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

    Here's the rest:

And these last two shots are of an antique fire "engine":

After that, we pretty much breezed on out, away from the heat. But what great fun that event is! They had several train cars and engines open for people to see, and hoardes of families lined up for each. It's very popular!

It's a funny thing about Fullerton. It's a town with a LOT of character, but the character is easy to miss if you're zooming past in a car. Some of the best stuff is on smaller streets, off the main arteries. The train days event, for example, is technically just off Harbor Blvd, but if you didn't know where Santa Fe street was (and if there weren't signs) you might miss it. But once you turn on Santa Fe, or the next couple streets up, it seems like the entire character of the area changes. For example, in driving to the parking structure (nearest was full), we passed this lovely brick church that was apparently (according to historical marker, which we shall assume to have some measure of accuracy) built in 1909:

Also near the structure was the Fullerton Museum Center:

    Anyway, good times

Very Cool! Sacramento has an event like this as well, and it is always on the hottest day of the year too.....

Right next to the museum is where the Fullerton Farmer's Market is held on Thursdays.

Of course, Morrigoon knows my love of Fullerton since she helped me buy my house here.

    Awesome pics!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Re: Fullerton Railroad Days Trip Report (Photos: mostly Lego display)

The Lego display was actually about half the size I remembered from last year, but no less interesting. My camera ran out of power before I could take pics of the other side, but they had an In 'n Out, complete with sign!
