TRIP REPORT - O'nut does Phoenix!

Last weekend Brian and I headed to visit with my friends and family that live in Phoenix. It was a quick weekend trip but we had a fun time.

Saturday we got up bright and early to go hiking at some mountain area east of the city. We were suppose to climb all the way to the top, but my friend Deborah and I ended up getting SO winded We made it more than 1/2 way though!

Here we are about to start up the trail. That's my friend Rob, his wife Deborah and Brian in the background:

Flowering cacti everywhere! Note, I caught a bee mid flight too!

    DON'T JUMP!

The menfolk. I've been friends with Rob since 7th grade, 27 years!

Views from the 1/2 way point:

About 1/2 way back to the parking lot, which you can see waaaaaay in the back behind us on the right, to the left of that saguaro:

Just "some" mountain? You don't know the name of it? Was it maybe Camelback Mountain? I know that's right near Phoenix! Looks like you had a great time! Thanks for sharing your pictures!

Re: TRIP REPORT - O'nut does Phoenix!

On Sunday we went to Casa Grande, which are Indian ruins from about the 1200-1300's. They were really cool to see!

That cover built over it was built I think in 1932 to keep Casa Grande from eroding further than it already had.

If you look at this side of Casa Grande, you can see a hole on the right side, and on the left side. The one on the right is positioned for the summer solstice on June 21. The hole on the right is positioned for a moonset once every 18.5 years! Very Druid-like no?

They allow you to walk inside the outer ruins, so of course Rob and I had to be dorks and pose:

Look it's a Matt sized door!!

    More flowering cacti:

    Awwwwww:

We also went to this restaurant place waaaaaaay south of town that had outdoor firepits you could roast marshmallows at, and a stage for music, but I was too tipsy to remember to take photos. My bad.

That's it. Short but sweet report.

    Brat!

Actually , I think you are quite funny. Only you could get away with saying "This is me on some mountain and this is me at some restaurant!"

Cool ruins. I didn't know they were there. I was supposed to be in Phoenix this weekend, to pick up Herbie (he's being completely restored) but he isn't quite finished yet. So I may be there next weekend.

Now I have something of interest to take the family too while we are there.

We have a lot of Anasazi ruins in our area

My wife and I at Mesa Verde, note, the complete lack of people

Looks like you were in the Superstition Mountains ONut- does that sound right? I have been hiking there many times and it is very beautiful.

Thanks for sharing your pictures, it looks like you had fun! This is a great time of year to visit Phoenix- not too hot and you can still smell the orange blossoms.

    I miss Arizona
