    Cool A DISNEY MEAL or NO MEAL?

    So! This was totally fun! We really LOVE the Monte Cristo sandwich at Cafe Orleans and we wanted a little taste of disneyland monday night (some hours ago) while we played Disney Scene-It! So...i searched the forums and found the recipe and we headed for the store to pick up the ingredients. Heres what we came up with...





    Does it look close to the one served in the park? haha minus the grapes and strawberries (we were out).



    Heres another angle with the nametag i made for the POTC premiere.

    Ahh and the finished product being devoured! HA HA HA

    The recipe worked and it tasted JUST LIKE THE ONES IN THE PARK! Woah....now i get to impress my friends with this at parties. Not sure if you can notice...but we've also made our rendition of the dole whip. Pineapple-coconut icecream with the pineapple juice kinda blended together. OH YEA!!! YOU KNOW IT! Has anyone else did this...like tried a disneyland recipe on a whim? We totally started making these around 9-ish.

    Thanks!!! we had problems with the deep fryer...so we had to just do em in a big pan of scolding hot oil...boy that was fun. Oh yeah...i don't normally wear an apron

    Aaron we do these on occasion but lately it seems that when we want a Monte Christo we make the trip to the park. Yours look great. My family also loves the home made version of Bengal BBQ, pommes frites, beignets and apple custard.

    Recipes below

    Disneyland Monte Cristo
    Currant Jelly Sauce
    2/3 cup currant jelly
    1 tablespoon water
    1 tablespoon half-and-half

    Combine jelly, water and half-and-half in blender and mix until smooth. Makes about 3/4 cup.

    BATTER
    1 1/2 Cups - All-purpose flour, sifted1/4 Teaspoon - Salt1 Tablespoon - Baking powder1 1/3 cups - Water1 - EggSift flour, salt and baking powder together. Add water to beaten egg, thenadd to flour mixture and mix well. Set aside.SANDWICH1 Ounce - Sliced white meat of turkey1 Ounce - Sliced Swiss cheese1 Ounce - Sliced ham2 Slices - Egg BreadMake a sandwich using turkey first, then Swiss cheese, and then ham. Cutsandwich into quarters using toothpicks to hold sandwich together. Dipsandwich in egg batter and fry in 360 degrees canola oil until goldenbrown. Remove toothpicks and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve withcurrant jelly.
    Bengal BBQ Korean Sauce

    First, heat a teaspoon of vegetable or canola oil gently in a sauce pan. Add one tablespoon (Or more to taste) of crushed fresh garlic. Saute lightly, do not burn.

    Now Add 2/3 cup of Soy Sauce, and 1 cup of water.

    Add:

    1 Tablespoon Fresh lemon juice.
    2 Tablespoons of brown sugar
    3 Tablespoons Sesame Oil
    1 Tablespoon ground Black Pepper
    1 Teaspoon crushed Red Pepper flakes
    1/2 Teaspoon Ground Cayenne

    Bring to a slow boil over medium to low heat.

    Reduce heat and simmer to reduce slightly.

    Mix 1 Tablespoon of Cornstarch with 1/4 cup of water. Mix well. Add to simmering sauce.

    Allow mixture to simmer slowly until the sauce thickens to a shiny, but thick sauce. Now, you need to taste it. Everyone has their own idea of what this sauce should taste like. And it doesn't really taste right until it's one the MEAT. It will get HOTTER as it sits. The red pepper flakes will release more flavor and heat over time. If it's too mild, add some more of the red pepper. If it's too thick, add a little water and a little Soy Sauce. If it needs a little tang, add another splash of Lemon. If it's tastes like SOY SAUCE and PEPPER again, add a little more water, sugar and Lemon. The sugar, sesame oil, lemon and fresh garlic are key in giving this a real flavor. You may need to try to make this a couple times, trying to determine what you need less of. Definitely one cup of Soy Sauce is too much.

    Let this sit while you prepare the rest of the recipe.

    Cube SIRLOIN (I tried cheaper meat and it was no good) into one inch cubes. Put into a Ziplock bag with a marinade of 1 part SOYSAUCE, 2 parts LEMON JUICE, 1 part water and several grinds of pepper. Let this marinate in the refrigerator at least 3 hours. ( I do this overnight and make the sauce just before a grill the meat)

    Gently warm the Korean Sauce. If it's too thick add a little water, lemon or Soy Sauce.

    Put the meat on skewers and grill over medium heat until they are medium rare to medium. Do not over cook these or they'll be tough. Once you put the skewers on a plate baste generously with the Korean Sauce.


    Pomme Frites Here is the recipe straight from the Cafe Orleans Kitchen.....

    1 portion fried potatoes
    1/2 oz Grana Padano (chese)
    1 tsp chopped garlic
    1/2 oz chopped parsley
    .001 oz Cajun spices

    The Cajun spices consist of: cayenne, paprika, salt, white pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, whole oregano, sugar, thyme, and rice flour. (unfortunately I was unable to get the exact proportions of the spices for the mix)

    ALSO......the dipping sauce (Cajun Remoulade)

    The ingredients are: citrus aioli, Cajun spices, 1000 island, lemn juice, salt, and pepper.

    sounds like such fun!!!! I wish I had the recipe for that pork tenderlion at Cindy's castle....the sauce on that was SOOOO good!!!

    What a fun little thread thanks for sharing it with us!

    Actually one of my favorite cookbooks is the one I bought at WDW lots of great recipes in it including a lot from DL.

    I am actually a little jealous too since I have no one who wants to play Disney trivia or Scene it with me. No one ever wants to go up against me cause they know they will loose. Actually I have Disney Scene It still in its unopened box from Christmas 2004
