    Our oceans are turning into plastic...are we?

    I ran across this article while surfing another site. It might be a little alarmist, but it's definitely food for thought...


    Yeah, I know it's a long article, but I thought it was interesting. Especially the photo of the turtle, about 1/3 of the way down.

    Very interesting article!

    Thanks so much for posting it and raising my attention to this problem.

    This part of the article was especially chilling to me:

    Oceanographer Curtis Ebbesmeyer, Ph.D., an expert on marine debris, agrees. “If you could fast-forward 10,000 years and do an archaeological dig…you’d find a little line of plastic,” he told The Seattle Times last April. “What happened to those people? Well, they ate their own plastic and disrupted their genetic structure and weren’t able to reproduce. They didn’t last very long because they killed themselves."
    "But every night, when it gets dark
    and the stars come out,
    I'll look up on her behalf.
    I'll look up in the sky and think of you."
