My friend is a UCI alum and she is so excited! She is actually flying to Omaha to see UCI in their first college world series ever.

I join sunnygirl in congratulating the Anteaters. And at the same time, my alma mater, Cal State Fullerton, is making yet another trip in their proud baseball history! Two OC schools headed to Omaha.

that is my goal as well, not an alum, just a staff member. Of course UCI is playing my alma mater, Arizona State, in the first round of the CWS.

ASU, of course, has a great tradition and has turned out many major leaguers over the years. (Fullerton's turned out a few as well, of course.) Is ASU's program now anything like what it once was?

ASU is thought to have their best team since 1981 when they last won the CWS. Many picked the Sun Devils to win the CWS this year before the tournament began, and now with five of the nationally seeded teams eliminated already and with Rice and North Carolina eliminating one another somewhere along the way, they'll only have to beat at most one nationally seeded team.

Woohoo!! ZOT ZOT!! Wow it's been a while since my days at UCI! I remember that we had a good basketball team while I was a student but we never made it this far!

Congrats to both teams! My BIL is a big CSUF fan and was at their game last night, as well as the tournament last weekend. My sister took him to the CWS for Father's Day 2 (?) years ago, but I think she's off the hook this year.

Moments ago, UC Irvine stayed alive in the College World Series in Omaha, sending home my Cal State Fullerton Titans in one of the better games you'll ever see.

After the Titans prevented the game winner with an out at the plate on a great throw, the "Eaters" came through with the two out rbi single in the bottom of the 13th.

Irvine moves on...Fullerton goes home.

And despite the fact that Irvine's leadoff batter should never have reached base in that inning... that's basesball. I say way to go, Irvine - I'll be pulling for you now.

Irvine 5, Fullerton 4 in a 13-inning elimination game thriller.

What a game it was. I take nothing away from the Anteaters. I was just sad that the winning rally was started when a kid deliberately leaned into a pitch to get on base.

Fullerton coach George Horton disputed the call and was ejected from the game. No, it didn't cost Fullerton the game because they still had a chance to get three outs, and got only two. But how that plate umpire missed that call, I'll never know.
