TRIP REPORT: Olympicnut does Massachusetts and New Hampshire!

Brian and I went back to his homeland, Boston, for a vacation. I met his family and friends which was great, and we spent a few days up in North Conway, New Hampshire at a friends house for some “R & R”. Here’s a photo essay trip report for ya.


The first day we got there we took his dog Jake out to a local park/preserve called the Breakheart Reserve. Lots of hiking trails and big ponds and such.

After some hiking, Jake got hot and decided to go swimming.


Back at Brians folks house. Here’s a kitty (her name is Sharpie) sleeping that his folks found with a pen someone shoved into it’s ear. It’s fine and has adapted well.


OOPS, looks like Jake is getting a little too frisky with the kitty.


OK OK I fess, this “cat” is actually some toy purring cat thing that looks pretty real (and freaky) from a distance. I just wanted to see if ya’ll would fall for my story

Up to New Hampshire we go!

Here we are at the top of a Cathedral Ledge. Lots of rock climbers climb up to where we were. We, of course, drove.

Jackson Falls. Here I am standing basically in the middle of the falls.


And here’s the view I was looking at. Very pretty.


After a little dip in the water, Jake finds a fun stick to play with!

We decided to head up to the Mount Washington Hotel for cocktails (it was about a 30 minute drive from where we were staying, in North Conway, N.H.). As you can see, Brian is very excited about being here for cocktails!

Mount Washington in the distance. At the summit is where the fastest recorded wind speed ever was recorded, at 231MPH! There’s a cog railway that goes to the top and if you look closely you can see the tracks going up the mountain.


Jeeze, even in the middle of the White Mountains he’s getting work phone calls!

Back to Boston we go. Here’s the old State House.

Turns out we were there when the Massachusetts government decided NOT to put a measure on the ballot in 2008 to let the people vote on whether gay marriage should exist or not. Thank you Massachusetts!!! Here’s a few photos from that day.

I loved this sign for the Freedom Trail, with the Human Rights Campaign sticker on it.

Of course there were the token ‘phobes in the crowd too. Totally looked like they just fell off the turnip truck too. Love the signs. “Gay is gay” Uh, DER! Another one that isn’t in this shot said something about “Marrige is between a man and a woman” Marrige. Know what? Websters puts out this great book, it’s call a DICTIONARY! One thing I didn’t understand was, that one sign that’s mostly all red, why don’t they want us playing leap frog?

Our last meal in Boston. Actually in Saugus where we stayed (with Brians folks). It’s the world famous Chinese restaurant, Kowloon. Totally awesome 1950’s kitchy tiki decorated place, it was FABULOUS!

Now if there had been lights on that tree, I would have been really dazzled! Beautiful pictures O-Nut! Boston is such a beautiful and historic city. I hope I get to go back there someday! Also, Jake is just as cute as can be, I love springer spaniels

I wanna go. We're planning our vacations for after the busy summer season, and I'm going to seriously lobby for a Boston trip. Drop dead gorgeous!

And if the person who couldn't spell marriage had looked it up in the Webster's dictionary, he/she would have found out the spelling and this:

1 a (1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage>

We're second and it's not quite what it should be, but I'm bettin' that we'll get moved up into the first definition one day soon. What an exciting time for you to be in Boston!

Great pictures!! Looks like you guys had a great trip.

I LOVE Kowloon in Saugus! It is one of the only places we go for Chinese food.

FYI the beautiful picture you took at the park with the bridge and the dome tree are actually in the called The Public Gardens. The Boston Common is the other park directly across from Charles St on the side where the State House is, many people think that they both one park.

It is a shame I didn't see you at the State House I was there most of the morning.
