Disney1978 goes to the BIG APPLE (and sees the Mouse) ! PHOTO HEAVY

I was in New York for almost 2 weeks so this TR will be in phases...

My mom and I had first gone to New York last September to see the play the Jersey Boys and her and both had the best time ever. Since Mom wanted to go back and she paid for the flight and hotel, how could I say no.

One of the major reasons that we came to NYC was of this guy


More on that later..

Our flight from LAX left at 6:00am which meant that we left my apartment at 4:00am No traffic at that time so it took 15 minutes to get there, parked the car at the lot, got the shuttle and checked in. Then the fun exciting times at LAX
Here is my Mom not affected that she got about 2 1/2 hours of sleep

Here I am knowing that I only barely slept for maybe 2 hours and being annoyed by the hyper mom next to me


After 5 hours on the plane and of my mom asking me what I see out the window, " Nothing, clouds and the wing."




See what I mean.

I don't think I am in Kansas anymore (or Redondo Beach where I live- don't forget I am living on 2 hours of sleep at this point).


How bright is it in Time Square.. well this was taken with no flash at about midnight


So there are alot more photos to come, BUT I want show you a store that all of us can appreciate


This is the World of Disney store at 5th Avenue and 56th Street. I get to know this store very well the next 2 weeks.


Open, open, open. "Hey Mickey can you help me ?"

He granted me my wish and the doors were opened. This is what I found.

When you first walk in the store there is a big pin section, but somehow I only took one picture Probably too busy going, hmm.. I will take this one, this one, ohhh this one, this one. I have never been to WDW and those are the pins that they carry and their own NYC pins.

If you are asking if Pirates have invaded there also the answer is ......




YES!

One of my favorite sections of the store is where you can stuff a Mr. Potato Head and a box of parts for $19.

The person that works that are (the girl on the right) is a saint. She will pack your box up as full as possible and as long as one side closes you are ok.

My parents went to NYC for the Macy's Day Parade in November and didn't get ANY pics of WOD...I was mortified but I see yours and am so happy! They also saw Jersey Boys when they were there and I'm going to go see it at the Ahmanson on July 14th! I'm SOOO excited! Thanks for sharing...your mom looks like a fun gal!

OH and can I guess who the guy in your first picture is...isn't he in Jersey Boys on Broadway? He looks familiar like that...

Thank you all for the great compliments! That is really nice to hear after being at work and the day that I have had.

Clara- you are right....

PHASE 2:

Even though we had been to NYC before we still decided to do a Party Shuttle tour of New York. The tour is about 6 hours long (yes, they stop for food and bathroom breaks). There was maybe 15 people on the tour and they take you to all of the major attractions some of which you stay on the bus (which was fine because it was cold, well cold to us Californians) , but some you get out at. Our first stop is where are all the Beatle lovers will appreciate.

Here is The Dakota. This is where John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived and where John was murded at. Yoko still lives there. She has a whole floor to herself where the balcony is.


Once you cross Central Park West you are in Central Park and you follow the path and you come to Strawberry Fields. It is very peaceful there and I would hope that is what he would have wanted.


Here is our tour guide, Edwin. He was amazing and he shared his personal stories with us and even his address at the end of the tour.


On the tour they took us to the Staten Island Ferry. This has got to be the best value in all of New York- it is FREE. You load up on one of these orange boats

You get some great views of the skyline ( if you are wondering the Twin Towers used to be behind the rounded green dome building on the left)

You also get to act like you are the king of the world

Or get to not look like an eskimo like someone in the above picture and freeze because my mom kept calling me a chicken.

Oh and you get a great view of this pretty lady from the ferry


Up next was Rockefeller Center and its beautiful architecture and some crazy women posing in front of some golden guy (inside joke, yes I do know the real name)


Here is 30 Rock (found out that they film mostly in New Jersey)






This is St. Patrick's cathedral and it has to be seen in person to see the full scope of it.


Enough of the learning ... so the main reason that we went when we did is because my mom LOVES, LOVES, LOVES The Jersey Boys. The person that plays Frankie Valli is John Lloyd Young(won the Tony in '06) and he resigned his contract until Novemeber. Mom wanted to make that he signed the contract before we went back and as soon as he did we got on the plane.

So here is my mom in her happy place, standing next to John.


The play is fantastic and even if you cannot see the one in New York there is a touring company and I have heard they are wounderful also. There are no pictures with me and the boys because someone was a little selfish of with their time (uhh, mom).

The next to guys are Christian Hoff and Daniel Reichart are also great and I like them better (shhh... don't tell my mom)



I am used to L.A. where if you see a movie or t.v. show the stars will rush off or just sometimes act like they could not be bothered to even say hi. After all the Broadway shows you just wait by the stage door and they come out and are very gracious. Christian and John both won Tonys for their performance and they will still wait till everyone has an autograph or picutre or whatever.
