I remember going to the Mann Christown Theater to see Wallace and Ladmo on Saturdays during intermission. When I was a blue bird (pre Camp Fire Girl) our troop went to the show and I still have the picture. I just wish I had gotten a Ladmo bag.

If your really old like me you will remember when they split the theater into 2 theaters, before adding the 4 or more theaters to it. Now it is all gone and they are re-building a Harkins Stadium theater.

My buddy is a firefighter and works with Ladmo's son, who is also a firefighter.

There is a new book out by Richard Ruelas about the show and it looks really cool, I need to swing by and pick it up.


Christown mall got super ghetto, gang hangout etc. It seems like it is coming around again, a new Harkins is opening within the month, so that will be nice. I really think they're going to need an off-duty police officer for the parking lot, it's still too sketchy.

I never got a Ladmo bag either!!! On my niece's birthday last year, I made her one (because she never got one either). I had my husband (he's an artist) do the lettering on a plain brown paper bag and filled it with goodies for her!!



She was SO excited, she couldn't believe I did that for her.

And YES, I DO remember it being Mann's Christown theatre and when they made it two theatres. I also remember when they put the theater upstairs in the mall...by the Gap (that was my first job...at that Gap) and it was such a big deal because it was multiple theatres and you'd have to go up the escalator to get there.

Oh my gosh....it's so fun to talk about this stuff!!!!!!!

I remember that Ladmo died quite a few years back, didn't he? I have a VCR tape of the memories of Ladmo that my older sister taped for me after I'd moved to Seattle. Up here they had some clown named J.P. Patches....that was THEIR Wallace & Ladmo. So dumb. haha! Just kidding!

First of all of us Gold Arizonan's (or used to be or wanna be Zonies) need to vote for the club that Earkid has recommended starting. Then we definitely need to have a meet. Maybe early next month when the Submobile is going to be here in Phoenix? I will check the dates and as soon as we find out a location we could all join up. See if we had our own club we could talk about all of our old town stuff. Because of this thread I Heart Disneyland and I have discovered we went to the same high school (Alhambra).

I lived in Tucson for 18 months back in 1955 - 1956. Came to CA in 1955 to visit relatives, went to Disneyland (my first time) late summer early fall 1955.

Lived in CA ever since except for 16 months in Vietnam (1968-1969).

Have a sister-in-law who lives in Mesa, AZ

Maybe I'm a Zonie by marriage

Amen to that statement!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to say I don't miss the opening of the car door to a flash of 200 degree heat and the seatbelts that were like touching hot pokers!!!

Christown was named for a man named Chris too. I remember that. AND..when I was a kid in the late 60's, my cousins and I would walk to Christown to play in the elevator and on the escalator in JC Penney! haha! One whole flight!!!!!!!

My son did tell me it was Spectrum Mall now. I sort of like that J C Penney is moving back in. Will they be in their old spot?

Nope, Costco is located dead center of the mall, with their food court
in the main lobby of the mall. JCP will be located in the west part of
the mall. I haven't seen what the exact layout of the mall with the
new tenants.
