My brother recently graduated from Air Force BMT (Basic Military Training) otherwise known as Basic Training at Lackland, AFB in San Antonio Texas. So the family took a trip down there. While it was an interesting experience, it was also boring and very hot and humid. Due to time constraints, we didn't get to do much other than the Riverwalk.
But one thing I learned is that the road system is messed up, I would not want to drive there.
First up on the agenda, after a 7:30am briefing on what's going on for the weekend, was the Airman's run, a 2 1/2 mile run past all the parents. Each squadron wore a different color PT uniform.
Later that day was the Coin Ceremony, where they recieved their Airman's coin and the retreat. After the retreat, they had base liberty until 7pm that night, meaning they could spend time with their families, but they had to stay on base.
Here is the crowd waiting for the ceremony to begin...
Here is the ceremony.
The next morning was Graduation, the buses left the Rec center at 7:15am and the graduation didn't start until 9am.
The passing of the Colors:
After Graduation, they had Base Liberty until 2pm then town pass until 7pm. During Base Liberty, we were allowed to go and see the dorms. They were spotless and the beds perfectly made. We were shown how the drawers had to be organized and how everything had to be in place.
The next morning, we had an early breakfast at the hotel and I made myself a Texas waffle
Then, we did the Riverwalk downtown. This is pretty much all that we did because my brother was too freaked out about TI's everywhere looking to get him.
Here are a few pics from the boatride we took:
Apparently, the swimsuit scene from "Miss Congenality" was filmed here:
We got to see the outside of the Alamo, but due to the long line, no one in my family but me wanted to go inside and look around the place, so I didn't get to
And that concludes the trip. Not much, I know, but my camera battery died early on and I kept forgetting to charge it up, so I had to use my dad's camera.
