    American Wins Hot Dog Championship

American Joey Chestnut has brought the hot dog eating title back to the United States, defeating Japanese champ Takeru Kobayashi.

Chestnut ate an amazing 66 hot dogs in the competition.

Kobayashi ate 63 dogs but had what some refer to as a 'reversal' towards the end of the event.

Amazing eaters, since the contest took less than 15 minutes.

Joey Chestnut had 66 credited and Kobayashi had 63 credited and they mentioned no disqualification of the former champ during the event itself, that I watched and DVRd.

We watch this every year. It was an amzing contest this time around. Kobayashi used to beat everyone by quite a few dogs. It was great to see some competition. I was still rooting for Kobayashi though (does that make me a bad American?) and was sad to see him lose the title.

Now this makes me proud to be an American
Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."

Lets remember that Kobayashi had a jaw injury and decided to compete this morning.

I have never watched this event until today and I don't think I will ever watch it again.
Especially the last 15 seconds. Yuck!

We always like to see our "athletes" playing hurt. Way to go Kobayashi! (On ESPN yesterday they said that his taking part would be a "lunchtime" decision... as opposed to gametime)

And Chestnut is from California, right? There we go again...setting the pace for the nation...

Even in this, a truly American event that shows our nation's values on so many levels...even if many of them are disgusting!

And for those that didn't know, there's a whole thing now called "sport eating"...

    Wow, 66?
    Wasn't the record before 53 or 59?
I didn't think Kobayashi was gonna do it but he did. I would have liked to see him win again too for some reason.

^^ Competetive eating. I can't remember the name of the organization but it is run by the O'Shea brothers.

Chestnut is the man. He broke the records by Koboashi that he has held for six straight years. Way to go Chestnut and representing the United States and how about defeating him on our home turf on Coney Island. What a day for competetive eating.

FINALLY!!! After all these years, it was a Japanese person who won the hot dog eating contest!! This tells us about the American people: we eat too much, we are obese and we need to lose weight, hahaha!!!

Well the contest has its origins in competitions among Brooklyn immigrants who used hot dog eating as a means of prooving who was the most American. (gotta love The History Channel)

It's an odd thing to be proud of, someone who competes by stuffing food in their faces. but Joey Chestnut is a native Vallejoian and I'm proud of that fact.

And he goes to San Jose State, where I just graduated from. Go Spartans!

66 hotdogs and buns= over 12,000 calories. In 12 minutes. Gross.
