Safety freak or just a freak?

I always unplug the toaster after I use it.

Any other safety freaks out there?

I don't unplug the toaster, in fact I store paper products on top of it.

But not to worry, you will find many kindred souls here.

Which is why you should always quote the message you are responding to.

Unless of course you too store napkins on the toaster.....

Re: Safety freak or just a freak?

I always wear glasses when handling sulfuric acid... I'd rather that stuff not get in my eyes.

Seriously, though....

I'm not too much of a safety freak. Depends on the situation. On one hand, I'll wear a helmet when biking or buckle my seat belt. I also try to make sure the coffee pot is off. I never drink from a bottle marked poison because it's sure to disagree with me sooner or later. However, I also don't think much about handling toxic chemicals with my hands that could potentially have adverse reactions to my health. I tend to push knives towards my chest when struggling with cutting something. I like to play with fire, too. It's very pretty.

I used to do this, until I melted a stack of styrofoam plates to the top of our toaster oven.

I'm like that. I also turn off the coffee machine when it's not being used and keep all doors locked even when i'm home.

Doing yardword, like mowing or weed whacking - I use goggles. Too many things fly through the air. AND I wear shoes and long socks, you just need to be careful because you could mow your toes off!

the rub is that the smell of bloodied toes ruins that sweet smell of freshly mown grass....

I make hubby do that too. I don't want to be taking care of a blind guy for the rest of our lives just cuz he wasn't a safety freak!

Re: Safety freak or just a freak?

I always unplug the toaster oven when I'm done with it. And before I leave the house, I always have this pressing need to check that the stove burners are off.
I also have this issue with leaving the ceiling fans on when I'm gone. I just don't like it. Of course, the fridge is always running...and I don't freak out about that. I'm just weird.

Re: Safety freak or just a freak?

Here's one. When I go on vacation, or away for the night, I turn the water off to the house. I've seen too many pipes break in my life when people go on vacation, only to come home to a flooded house. No thanks.

And I used to be in the habit of putting the water heater on "pilot", but I got out of that habit. I need to start doing that again when I go on vacation.
