Disneyland in HDR photography

One of the exciting areas in photography is HDR imaging, and I've been taking multiple images in the park to combine as HDR images.

What is HDR? High dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allow a far greater dynamic range of exposures (i.e. a large range of values between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to the deepest shadows, since the eye can see 30,000 levels of light, but digital cameras can only capture about 500 levels of light at one time.

HDR images are made from a set of photos taken with a range of exposures, and then tone mapped in a program like Photoshop (I use photoshop, although Photomatix is a popular program also), together with the bracketed exposures of normal digital images, giving the end result a high, sometimes even exaggerated dynamic range.

Here's a few examples from Disneyland. My HDR shots of the monorail came out great, but I'm still processing other shots. Note that all of these are not my shots - they all have creative commons licenses to the photographers listed:

Re: Disneyland in HDR photography

I'm amazed more at how fun it must have been to produce these. Really cool.

Awesome images. Here's my first. It's a start. *shrug* And it's not Disney. Yeah the pixels stink.

Re: Disneyland in HDR photography

Theres so much detail, my favorite is the Partners picture...Did it have effects added in photoshop or was that just the final outcome of the shot?
