Re: It's BAAACK! The Perseid Meteor Shower

    Thanks for letting us know!

My dentist informed me of the shower this weekend as she was drilling away. I acutally saw a shooting star (a rather large one at that) while I was driving last Sunday night. Dentist said that could have been an early one out of the pack that's supposed to come this weekend, since there are always a few early birds and a few late ones.

I'm going to have to remember this!

Here it is folks, the bump you've all been asking for

It's tonight! I've got my beach chair set outside facing northeast, all ready for tonight.

I laid outside last night and saw a couple fly by in a window of about 15 minutes. Maybe we were just really lucky to spot them. I hope they really pick up soon!

30 more minutes, 3 more meteors.

    Boo.

It should pick up in a few hours, I was just hoping for more before I have to go to bed, which is now, an hour later than normal.

Hope others got to see more!

Re: It's BAAACK! The Perseid Meteor Shower

Took my dog out for a late walk and stood around hoping to see one, in spite of being in a too-light area. It was worth it, I got to see a big, bright one! Yay!

(Yeah, I'm satisfied having seen just one. Too tired to drive off into a dark area.)

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Re: It's BAAACK! The Perseid Meteor Shower

I'll probably head out around 3:30 if I am still up. However, this year should be only a mediocre year for the Perseids because comet Swift-Tuttle (the origin of the Perseids) is rather far from the Sun and the debris field is thinning...

From 4:00 to 4:30, I saw about 30-40, with about 8 really brilliant ones.
