It's BAAACK! The Perseid Meteor Shower

Want a free stellar fireworks show? Then grab a lawn chair, sit outside starting around 9pm Sunday night August 12th, and face northeast. The Perseid meteor shower is back and better than ever!

Better, because there's no moon in the sky what-so-ever, so the viewing should be pretty easy.

The best time to watch will be from 2am until dawn Monday morning, but you can still see them Sunday evening.

Have patience, it's not a "step outside, look up and BAM there they are" sort of event. You have to have some patience, sit outside for a while and scan the heavens facing northeast.

A few years ago, a friend and I went a couple miles out of 'city' to watch a meteor shower and it was just the most amazing site, shooting stars everywhere! I sure wish this was on a Saturday night though when I didn't have to work the next day. Thanks for letting us know this is coming up!

Dude! I got up and made myself a note so I don't forget!

I only hope the smoke has cleared out some otherwise the super duper telescope won't do any good!

Thanks for the heads up. I may have to let my son stay up late so we can see this.

I love the Perseids! The best one I've seen - a large "star" flew from one horizon to the other, dividing the sky in half with a tail that glowed for about 30 seconds. It was gorgeous!

    Thanks

Thanks for giving the information about the best times. I'd heard about this and planned to just sit outside the whole night. Now maybe I won't have to stay all night to see it.

Only problem is, our house faces south and there's a hill behind us. Oh, well, I'll probably be able to see it fine, but I wish it were to the south instead.

You're wrong, Brer Rabbit, why would I want to be home when I can be at Disneyland?!?
