My beautiful sister's flew in from MN last week, and we decided to take a road trip to Washington DC. I had not been in 6 years, Mr. Dkat had not been in 15 yrs and my sisters had NEVER been. This was bound to be a great adventure.
We packed up the car after my OB appt, and hit the road, stopping every hour to stretch (Dr.'s orders), on our way to our hotel in Fairfax;
After clearing up a hotel mix up (we went to the wrong one), we decided to hit the memorials by night. WW2 memorial was mazing and beautiful. It started to rain so we thought, oh we'll drive around and the rain will go away. Yeah...no, so as we passed the Supreme Court bldg, i snapped this lovely shot:
Friday we were up bright and early for our showers
Then we hit the Air and Space Museum
Apparently, we just don't like to follow the rules
DC left Mr. Dkat climbing the walls
and I was forced to "run" across the busy streets (I didn't really run, cause I can't)
Saturday was another bright and early day. First stop was the Holocaust Museum. A beautiful tribute to victims and survivors, but also very heart wrenching
We had lunch at a Malaysian restaurant and then headed to the national archives to view the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights
After a short visit there, we decided to go to the Lincoln Memorial
It provided great photo ops for the reflecting pool and Washington Monument
But people just didn't follow the rules....even though WE DID
After walking around TOO much, we headed back to our hotel, but not before getting these shots at the sculture park
Sunday we watched a soccer game at an Irish pub and hit the Capital Bldg.
We also got to visit the Vietnam memorial
Of course no trip is complete without the traditional "visit; to the White house.
Would you believe it though???? While we waited for Mr. Dkat to get back to the car after shopping at the make-shift gift shop near the Washington Monument....we saw Marine One with the President and First Lady fly by??? No joke:
Whether you like him or hate him, you have to admit...THIS IS COOL!!!!!!!!!
And thus ends our journey to the nation's Capital. It was hot, it was fun and it was full of laughs.
