Exclamation Tribe to build a Glass Bridge over the Grand Canyon

    http://www.ktnv.com/news/jul05/338593.asp

It is one of the great natural wonders of the world -- and it will soon to be joined by an engineering marvel.

A fantastic glass bridge arcing 60-feet out over the grand canyon -- giving visitors an unobstructed view 4000-feet straight down.

Sheri Yellowhawk, tribal executive says "That's gonna be a scary view. It's gonna be exciting. It's gonna be a once in a lifetime view.

It may be scarey indeed having nothing more than sheets of glass separating you from eternity.

But the bridge has been engineered to withstand 100-mile per hour winds, magnitude 8 earthquakes -- and hold the weight of 71-jumbo jetliners.

The glass bridge -- officially called the canyon skywalk -- been under construction for months here on the west rim of the grand canyon.

I think that's one of the coolest ideas I've ever read.

I'd wanna go just to support them because they're a non-gambling tribe. (I know, ironic from someone who goes to Vegas, right?)

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Um, I think I would have issues with that. And I know I'd never get my bf on it! But good for them, cuz I bet other people are braver than me.

This sounds frightening but I think I might go across it. Nothing wrong with facing a fear, right?

I think the scariness factor of it would be the best part. Thrilling.

Re: Tribe to build a Glass Bridge over the Grand Canyon

Near Colorado Springs (where I lived for a decade) there is a canyon called the Royal Gorge. Over the Royal Gorge is the world's highest suspension bridge.

    http://www.royalgorgebridge.com/

The bridge roadbed is made of 8" x 8" beams.... Think railroad ties lined up side by side... Well, between the beams are gaps of half an inch to an inch or so, so you can look at your feet and see through the cracks 1053 feet straight down to the river below with little ant-sized paddlers shooting the white-water rapids in their ant-sized rubber rafts.

Yikes. Can really take your breath away for a second.

This.... 4 times as high, and take away the beams!!!!!

    I'm soooooo there!

I remember going over the Royal Gorge bridge when I was growing up, my sister hated every second of it. I think the glass bridge idea over the canyon sounds like something that I'll have to do.

Do you think a lot of birds will crash into the bridge?
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
    Marge: Pink.
    Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

Re: Tribe to build a Glass Bridge over the Grand Canyon

my first reaction was, why? Its going to modernize a natural wonder, but then I thought...well, if they are putting a bridge out there...maybe a bungy is next....one can only hope
    What an idiot....
