![]() | A walk in the rain forest Aloha! This is Hana , Maui ![]() My family and I were there this past weekend and we decided to go on one of our favorite hikes. It began on this foot path ![]() ![]() There were so many plants and so many bugs! ![]() And it was hot and humid, but still totally worth doing! ![]() ![]() Because of the beautiful scenery ![]() And the cool trees......when I saw this one the Pocahontas song kept going through my head ...."Listen with your heart, you will understand" ![]() And if it got too hot, all you had to do was jump in a waterfall ![]() There were plenty along the way ![]() And this bamboo part of the hike is so cool because the wind blows gently and the bamboo knocking together makes a really cool sound ![]() ![]() Wow, we were getting closer to the top of the trail ![]() And then we reached the biggest waterfall I wish I could show you how high this was ...all you can see of it in this picture is a smidgen of it ![]() After the swim , we made ur way back down the two mile trail and went to the beach for some fun ![]() Then back to the house we were renting ...this was the view outside the windows ![]() ![]() ![]() And off the deck during a rain storm ![]() And inside the house where a gecko had discovered some of our sweet treats ![]() The road to Hana is so beautiful ![]() ![]() And you can always stop for a game of baseball along the way ![]() ![]() ![]() Or you can try to pet the feral kitties and roosters ![]() Or you can watch the surfers ![]() But rain or shine, it's all good in the rain forest! ![]() |

![]() | Re: A walk in the rain forest Fantastic pix PB! Your family sure has fun. My goal in life is to become your Kato Kaelin. I went on that trip like 14 years ago and didn't make it all the way to Hana. Rather winding road. Chad |

![]() | Re: A walk in the rain forest Thanks everyone! I will post some other pictures of the west side of Maui later. We saw some phenomenal sunsets and rainbows! ![]() Quote:
Really? I can 't believe you didn't make it all the way being the adventurous guy you are! Ken and I made our first trip there and back in a day 10 years ago. Then 5 years ago, we wanted to take our time and stay there overnight so we found this awesome house to rent in the local newspaper. It was only eighty bucks a night then, a hundred fifty bucks a night now, but it's HUGE! And the setting is so cool. But it's definitely not for the squeamish since there are lots of geckos and others bugs there! Quote:
Yep! We started at the bottom pool and worked our way to the top! Ken has some great pictures that show the height of the highest waterfall, but he's saving those to post himself. The water coming down from such a high height was pretty powerful on my head and that's when it wasn't raining! If it had started raining , I would have gotten out of it in a heartbeat! LOL Quote:
You are so right! The wild ginger smelled the best! But on the hiking trail, the guavas and mangoes either smelled great or like an old smelly bar depending on how recently they'd fallen on the ground. When we got near the banyan tree , we looked back and saw Ken running because so much fruit was falling out of the trees and it sounded like rocks when it hit the ground! That trail is just awesome...it's one of our favorites of all the places we've been. Quote:
Sure! ; ) We did a lot more traveling this year than any other I think because our kids are older now and it's easier. But I'm actually ready to stay put for a while now other than maybe a couple quick trips to DL this year. I'm going to be working a lot more hours at my job starting October 1. | ||||
