Good Bye Time Lady

For many of us, the time lady was something we grew up with. When your power went out or the time changed, you called the time lady (POPCORN for those of us in Northern California) and got time every ten seconds.

Well that service is coming to an abrupt end in September.

Citing changing times, a need for prefixes and old equipment, AT&T has been gradually phasing the service out, and the last two states (Nevada and California) are now set to be cut off.

I for one will miss calling to check.

We noticed after a recent power outage that when we called her she stopped after only saying the time twice. She used to go on for quite some time.

How can I set my watch with just two "beeps" available to me??? hehe

When she would say 'hello' my Grandma Teresa would say "Hello - may I please have the time?"

Lady would say the time and my Grandma would say "Thank you very much."

We used to laugh.....because Grandma never realized that 'she' was a recording.

At the tone the time will be...has been gone in Washington for quite sometime. I remember calling her as a child just so I could use the phone.
