EEEKKK!!! Three in ONE day!!!

Early yesterday morning, my 7 year old went outside and yelled out "MUM! there's a red back out here!" I said "whatever you do DON'T TOUCH!!!". I went out to see and he had killed it!. then last night a friend came to drop my daughter home and said "you know you have a redback out here??" ANOTHER ONE?? So she killed it!
For a few days I have noticed a spider here below me where the computer is, in the corner (almost on the floor). I have tried unsuccessfully to suck him up in the vaccuum, so I thought while ever he's not touching me, I'll leave him. Well my son just came and discovered it and went and got a handful of kleenex to get it. So I took a good look, and what the heck?? ANOTHER REDBACK!!!!!!

All three of these spiders were at feet level!!

Redback spiders are the same as your black widow, only difference is that the red is on the back and not the belly. The venom is almost exactly the same!

red-back spider, redbacks or lactrodectus hasseltii is potentially a poisonous spider with a red stripe marking on the body. they are related to the notorious black widow spider but smaller in size. a native of australia, it is highly venomous and when bitten, it is characterized by intense pain and around the bite area.

that's what I was going to say!! LOL LOL LOL

At our last home I found them in the food pantry, behind the freezer, on my book case. They were all around the eves of the house, all over the kids swing set..... We got a guy out to spray them and he counted over 100 on the swing set alone!! (alot under the slide)

When I was a kid, they mostly stayed under stuff like under timber. They like to be in dark areas, but not now it seems!!

how old is he?if he's old enough, find some pics of maybe some brown recluse bites and show him. theyare very graphic and it might scare him off of the spiders.

he's 7 and spider crazy. Last year he used to spend all his recess and lunch break hunting of spiders. I don't let him outside much, because he just seaches for bugs!!

he's old enough to use pics for scar tatics. kids here are spidercrazy, but we have a very common spider that can't do a thing to you, so it's not really dangerous. but then we also have the black widows and reclses and wolf spiders. we uysually inform kids young about those.

Wow, that is kind of scary that they were so close to your body! I would be freaked out and now am imagining something is on me.

Re: EEEKKK!!! Three in ONE day!!!

our house is a habitat and breeding center for black widows. Well, not really, but we have a lot. When the summer began I counted about 11 outside, 1 by the dog water bowl and one by our sliding glass door inside.

They really don't bother me. I just don't want the dogs to get bit so we spray now. Pre dogs we left them alone and photographed them:

I also found a male baby black widow on the dog jump. I killed him.

A couple of days ago a larger male widow crawled up my arm. he didn't bite me, but I did dispose of him. Then about a month or so ago I witnessed an egg sac hatching. It was just like charlottes web. They got all over me, but they were to small to bite or maybe they just like me. Black widows have been on me a few times and they didn't bite me.

I do understand the fear people have of them. I used to as well.
