    Walt's Childhood regret

    Hi folks,

I am new to the forum. I need some help. My son's religion teacher has asked her class to find out what WD's childhood regret that ultimately caused him to make a movie about it later in life - any ideas? Sorry if this is the wrong forum - I did not know where if fit

    Thanks

Sorry FrancoHam, I don't have a clue, but now you've got me interested. Did it have something to do with religion? I know he went to church on Sundays but was not all that religious. He kept his views on that subject to himself. He had to work when he was little to help support the family, maybe it had to do with not having much of a care-free childhood, therefore, he made cartoons. Just guessing though. I've read a few bios on him, but just can't think what this teacher wants. Hopefully someone here can help you out.

By the way, welcome to MiceChat.

Actually, as an adult, he didn't attend church regularly, according to the biographies I've read.

I don't quite know that to which the teacher is referring. The assignment seems rather odd. Certain films have related to faith and spirituality, but I assume "Pollyanna" probably most matches Walt Disney's childhood experience with fire-and-brimstone fundamentalism.

How presumptious of the teacher to think WD had any regrets. I know I don't. Sounds like the teacher is projecting...

    Re: Walt's Childhood regret

The only real regret I know about for Walt Disney was when him and his brother purchased the house in California for their parents...the water heater had a gas leak and his mother died because of it. He blamed himself for the rest of his life because of it....I've read countless biographies and never once did they say he regretted something in his childhood.

So either the teacher knows something the was never published or made public or she could possibly be talking about the aforementioned situation...it tore Walt up for a very long time.

I think Walt Regretted not buying more land so that he could have made Disneyland bigger. I also think he probably could have built hotels so he'd own the park and the hotels but that wasn't a childhood regret, it was an adult one.

When I go to Disneyland, I tune my FRS Radio to channel 2, without a quiet code. They're faster than a cell phone and you can talk to a whole group at a time, and you don't have to get everyone's cell phone number in advance.

I think I may be able to help out on this.

later in the semester to make up for the lame assignment.

I believe, if this is a correct recollection, Walt Disney regretted not finishing school as he dropped out early.

Perhaps it's an assignment about regret. Perhaps the answer has some religious connection. Either way, I'm interested to find out what the teacher had in mind.

Bambi is the movie the teacher is refering to I would bet. The regret would be something Walt did to an animal......I think.
