[Car Show Trip Report] Swanx Fall Fiasco, Vallejo, CA 10-13-07

So here comes another car trip report from me. This will be a pretty small one, as it was less of a "car show" and more of just a get-together.

Swnax is a car club in my hometown of Vallejo, they mostly have rat rods, leadsleds, kustoms, etc. Everything is heavily customized for the most part. They are the host club for Billetproof as well. This get-together is something they do every 2 years apparently. Just a small thing in the parking lot of a local bowling alley with food, a band, and some vendors. My dad never got contacted by them to sell as a vendor, but we decided to go anyway to check things out, as it wasn't a far drive and Swanx are nice people.

There was maybe 30 cars there. I still managed to take nearly 70 pictures though, doing more detail shots, trying "bumper shots" and other new stuff.

They had part of the parking lot roped off especially for the get-together, but there was also cars parked outside the roped off area, mostly late comers and the cars owned by the Swanx members themselves.

Type of the cars the Swanx Car Club has.

The color on this one was great.

The work these guys do with pinstriping is really amazing

Lots of flaking on rat rods

I dislike Rancheros, a lot. But this one has been done really nicely. I've taken a picture of it before, the owner is a nice guy.

There was a lot of Buicks at the get-together

This one had a kind of odd hood ornament

This car was based off a model kit called the Black Widow 2.

This guy's roof rack is made from copper pipes and wood boards

I really dug this Lincoln

When cars have pinstriping and their names on the front like this, I can't resist taking pictures of it.

Had a heck of a time trying to identify this for Flickr tagging. It's a '26 Model T, but it has the grille of a '32 Ford or so.

Yellow is the perfect color for coupes, in my view.

There is a severe lack of Dodges at car shows. This is a '49

This belongs to a friend of my dad. He also owns a '40 Ford Coupe which I took a picture of a Fun Ford Sunday. I like this more than his '40. It has a very basic look to it, which is rare for '32 Roadsters

Third time I've spotted this guy. He was also at Midnight Mass and Billetproof

Another Buick, this one a 1953 Roadmaster Riviera

Impalas are a thing of beauty

Take a grille off a car and you remove my main thing used to identify. This is a '57 Ford, I originally labeled it a '55 Chevy, whoops.

I love Mercs

This was my first try at a bumper shot. It consisted me of attaching my camera to a mini-tripod, placing it on the ground and blindly aiming it without a viewfinder or LCD screen, just eyeballing the lens direction. Most of them came out off-center like this one, but some came out with a nice "artistic" look.

'50 Chevy

Mid '40s and Early '50s cars lend themselves to bumper shots really well. This is the only one that came out with the whole bumper in shot.

I loved this Chevy, but I wish his hood was down, having it up ruins the beautiful curves.

'49 Packard

In between the Packard shots is when I dropped my camera. I was switching it from my mono-pod to the mini-tripod and it slipped out of my hands. After letting loose some choice obscenities, I was able to ***** the damage. A few chips on the casing and it had popped upon along the seam. I was able to pop it back in and it worked fined. That'll teach me to try and juggle 3 things in my hand like that, especially that dang mono-pod

This is something I've never seen, a Mercury Cyclone

As a kid when I disliked classic cars for the simple reason my dad liked them, Willys Coupes were the only things I really liked. Now that I love classic cars, Willys Coupes are still high up there, but so few of them are out there now. And pretty much none are stock.

And it wouldn't be a rat rod car show without a picture of a Chevrolet Apache

THE END

All my pictures are available on my Flickr page. The pictures I didn't post from this set are on there, as well as pictures from the car show I went to last weekend in Redwood City that I didn't do a trip report on.

Thanks for sharing your photos.. that lincoln is pretty awesome... at my sisters wedding we all drove up to the ceremony (my sister and her bridesmaids) in that exact same model... it was cool.

If you are ever in the DL area, stop by the car show on Main Street in Garden Grove.

Every Friday night and usually a 100 cars or so.

Something for everybody's taste.
