We didn't know about that one when we were at my bf's parents' house in Seal Beach this evening, but on the drive home we were trying to figure out where the fire was because we could see the smoke.

Imagine our surprise as we got closer and closer to it...

Can't see it FROM our house, but if we go one major street over, then we can see up to where it is... as in... see flames. So, uh... little too close for comfort, actually. My bf decided to take his car out to gas up, but I think it was more so he could keep an eye on the fire's progress.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

    Re: Malibu Fire

I am just a block from the street where the fire is currently, Portola. The smoke here is horrendous. I came home from a long day at the CHOCwalk and the park, and couldn't figure out how to get to my house, since the road was blocked off with fire and police personnel. So far they've bulldozed the fire so it won't spread past Portola, but it won't be out until tomorrow at the earliest, they say.

I went outside to tell my neighbor and I am still coughing and choking from the smoke - big mistake, that was.

Thanks for the good thoughts guys . The Canyon Country fire is about a mile from me and I can see the flames from my complex, but it does have a way until it could reach me. I do have my car packed in case (better safe than sorry), but I really don't think I will have to leave.

They just had a news conference and said it is now 12,500 acres big and they have lost 25 structures. Unfortunately, they don't see these winds dying out until Tuesday .

For those in OC, they're saying on this page that the Irvine one started around Santiago Cyn and Silverado Cyn. Thomas Guide page 832 A2.

VF: Stay safe! That fire seems to be the most disconcerting to the news folks, I hope you stay safe!

One of my dear friends had to evacuate her home. I am so worried about their home, although, THEY are safe and so are their children.

Everyone keep us posted on how you're doing. Prayers going out for you all.

    Re: Malibu Fire

Update: Just found this this morning and it made me pissed:
-They're saying the Irvine fire was arson (argh! Okay don't play with matches on windy days!).
-They're evacuated Grass Valley Lake (close to Lake Arrowhead) fire.
-Arrowbear/Green Valley mandatory evacuations. Fire started at 8 am...
-Grass Valley Lake at 5 Points closed.
What does this mean? Arrowbear is the next town over from me. Green Valley is near work... So I am... I use 5 Points to get to work. 2 fires on the mtn... I should probably get a bag ready in case I get evacuated.

For San Diego residents, there are a lot of evacuation areas. Our house is in one. We headed over to my mom's early this morning.

Thank goodness you're safe. And also everyone else who have evacuated.

We're always having fun in the Fun and Games Lounge. Care to visit us?

My in-laws are in that area. They're preparing to head down the mountain and called me to see if they can stay at my house.
