    Overused Words

Do you find that you or someone near you overuses words? I do at times.....and my wife will point it out to me......

But lately, words that I see overused are:

Amazing - this is used to describe something that really isn't amazing, but 'pretty good'. Like the corn dogs on Main Street are really good, but they aren't 'amazing' as I heard someone say once.

Awesome - to really be in awe is almost to be speechless or your mouth hanging open in AWE......

Can you think of any other words that get overused in 'descripton of'???

    Dude!

It seems that everyone uses that one these days, no matter what your age or gender.

Phenomenal- A lot of my friends use this word to describe restaurants and stuff but it's too powerful of a word to describe them...

Agreed. Phenomenal would be if they fed you and massaged your neck and shoulders as you ate - and then if they picked up the tab...THAT would be phenomenal.

    Re: Overused Words

I find myself using the same word repeatedly within posts and from post to post.

I've tried to refrain from saying "I'm sorry" because it's a phrase that some people appreciate but some hate. So, instead, I say "I feel bad about the situation" or "I'm sad for you".

There's only so many ways I can say those things and it often looks repetitious.

And I can't stand it when I inadvertently start each paragraph with the same word.
"But every night, when it gets dark
    and the stars come out,
I'll look up on her behalf.
I'll look up in the sky and think of you."

I bet if you had challenged her not to use the word LIKE in every part of speech, she wouldn't be able to talk. It's like when my Grandpa held my Grandma's hands down when she was talking once and she got frustrated and couldn't speek.

    Re: Overused Words

Another overused word or phrase is "I'm all..." when conveying a past conversation to a third party. What they should say is "So I said..." and instead they say "And I'm all..."

    You know what I mean???

I say "You know what I mean" way tooo much... I always think people aren't paying attention when I talk so I say that after so they acknowledge what I have said...
