Question Help me make a decision, MiceChat!

    Hello MiceChat,

Here's the dillema. My desktop finally pooped out on me. It has served me well as I have had it for 7 years but anyway, it is sleeping with the fishies now. I do have a fairly new HP notebook, but I mainly use that for school and want a new desktop. I am pretty sure I am going to go with HP for the desktop, too ( I would LOVE to get a Mac but I am a poor college student and they are too rich for my blood).. but the dillema is I don't know whether to get it with Windows XP or Vista... my notebook has Vista and I am not the biggest fan of the way it is all layed out, so I am leaning twords XP, but I don't want to spend a significant (for me) amount of money for a computer with a system that will be outdated soon... Is it worth it for me to get the computer with the system I prefer, or will I be regretting that choice in a few months???... Should I get it with XP or Vista??

Ps. If this belongs in the Tech lounge, mods can move it... I wasn't sure since its more of a "whats your opinion" type of thread and not a "lets discuss this new technology" one...

I think XP good for at least another 3-5 years. But MS won't support it, unless public outcry (increasing too) will have them rethink their stance. We may all need to upgrade before too long. Good luck on your decision.

I'd go with Vista personally. You don't want to get an OS that will have no support.

If you are buying new - you will find it difficult to get a new machine with XP. There are only a few major build-it companies (like Gateway, Dell, etc) that build your machine to your specs - including OS. Most everyone else is Vista only.

Like it or no - XP is well on it's way to non-support.

Ugh.. I know.. I'm probably going to end up getting it with Vista-- HP does still offer a desktop with XP, though... hmn.. so many decisions.. but I think I'll go with Vista because you guys are right-- I am going to want to have support..
    Thanks for the advice...
