With Thanksgiving around the corner, I figured it would be a great idea to start a thread so we can share some of our family recipes. We usually make Carmel Chocolate Squares for dessert on Thanksgiving.
So I am going to share the recipe with you all.
The final result will make 48 bars.
14 oz of Carmels
5 oz of Evaporated Milk
1 package of Betty Crocker Super Moist German Chocolate Cake Mix.
2/3 Cup of Margarine or butter (They must be melted).
3/4 Cup of chopped Pecans or Walnuts (Optional Ingredient)
1 Package of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Heat oven to 350 degrees. On stove top, heat the carmels and 1/4 cup of Evap. Milk in a saucepan. Make sure the heat is at a medium temperature and that the Carmels and milk are constantly stirred together until the Carmels are completly melted. When the mixture is smooth, reduce the temperature to low, but keep stirring occassionally. Then get out a mixing bowl and combine the cake mix, margarine/butter, remainder of the evaporated milk, and the nuts together. After all that is mixed, get a small spoon and spread half of the dough in a greased rectangular pan (13x9x2 in.). Bake the mix in the oven for 6 minutes. After that, remove the pan from the oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips on it, then drizzle the carmel ontop of that. Place the remained of the dough ontop of the carmel and place it back in the oven. Bake until the cake portion seems to be dry to the touch (This should take only about 15-20 minutes). After that, take it out of the oven and let it cool down for a bit.
Then enjoy !
