    Soliciting problem....

OK I'm totally fed up with Solicitors coming to my house. From 9 o'clock to now I've had my door bell ring 4 times. I just opened my door and my front door area looks totally littered, I probably have 10 pieces of paper. Oh and the last people who came to my door, rang the door bell 4 times and stood there for 5 min. and tried looking into my front windows. This happens to me every damn day. My son freaks out and starts crying when someone rings the door bell and I don't answer it. I have to take him into the back of the house since his playroom is the windows people look into. well, today I made my own sign and stuck it onto the front door, it reads, "No Soliciting Go Away Please!" It'll have to do until I go out and buy a few dozen to stick into my front yard. I know its part of these peoples jobs to do this for a living, but I'm just so sick of it, and looking into someones windows is just crossing the line. When I was 16 I opened my door to someone selling something and they pushed there way into my house (which I was home alone) and started getting up all on me. After I started screaming for help he told me he knows where I live and would be back to get me, then he left and shortly the police showed up. So ever since then I'm sooo scared to answer my door and anyone. I trust no one!
Back to soliciting.... Does anyone out there have a big problem with it too? I'm moving into a apartment in September and I hope things will be different then living in a house.

It can't be that hard to rewire your doorbell to give someone a mild shock.

Not that I'd advocate that...just pointing out a fact.

Put up a gate down at the sidewalk and lock it?

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Mind you, you'll still get the litter, but it'll be at the gate, and not involving scaring your kid as much.

I get that too. Usually it's about roofing or windows or real estate! But they don't come to the door very often. Solicitors suck. I hope none of you have that job. If so, sorry, but you need a new one.

    Re: Soliciting problem....

I get trash, religious people, ano other assorted annoyances. I don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone or a package to be delivered. I have a small window in the door that I can open if I need to. I usually just tell them NO. NO. NO. Buh bye.

I will eventually get a sign that states "no soliciting". I have considered calling the companies that leave trash on my gate and telling them that I need a new "-----" but I would NEVER hire a company that leaves trash at my house.

I just wonder how many languages I need to have the sign in.

We had two signs- no solicitors and no religious materials (that one was in english and spanish) It seemed to work. I also just don't answer the door to them.

Although when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it might be about something else.......

I have one of those security screen doors and 4 dogs. I love watching peoples faces when the barking dogs charge the door! Then I just go up to the screen and yell out, "No thanks!"

I like the screen doors that you can see out but they can't see in.

    Re: Soliciting problem....

The security ones are the big white (or black) metal doors. They have a lock and everything. Instead of being mesh, which could be torn, they're perforated metal. That way you could even (as a poster above mentioned, leave your regular door open, but the screen door locked, and it's just as well.
