    Roommate help

Dude(et)s of Micechat I have a serious problem. I have a sloth for a roommate. Some back story He's failed 4 out of 5 of his classes so far at Western Culinary Institute, and does nothing but eat macrowave burritos and play videogames. He has the mentality of a five year old and I honestly think he may be mentally handicapped, though not severe.

Here's were I need help. He has terrible hygeine. He wears about 3 out of the five uniforms that were provided for him, and he has not done laundry in about a month. He does not wash his hands, and I don't believe"wipes" to put it nicely. Today I was passing by him when I smelt what I thought was mold, wrapped in Gym Socks (OK that is putting it nicely) I walked away thinking it was something else and the smell decreased, I walked back and the smell intensified. I asked him how long it has been since he did his laundry, I already knew the answer but he still tried to avoid the question. Next I asked him how long it has been since he took a shower. Again he avoided the question, so I asked if he had this week; His answer? No. Has it been longer? Yes. How do I know? the bathroom is next to my room, and the water heater is in my closet, so I would know.

How can I get him to practice better hygeine? It's difficult because I am not his parent or keeper, so I have no authority over him.

    That's actually sounding good.
Serious though his hygeine is so bad I want to hurt him simply for petting my cat, no living creature should be subjected to that filth.

I would just sit him down and draw the line...lay down the rules or move out!

You could spritz it all over and then when he comes into the room spritz him. It's mean but...

Can you keep your cat in your bedroom?

On Craig's List you can be very specific about what you're looking for in a roommate. I say boot the guy, and get an acceptable person to share the rent. If it's his place, use Craig's List to find a place to move to.

With roommates, there will always be compromises. Sometimes, though, unacceptable behavior is exactly that, unacceptable. Good luck.

No his mom doesn't stink to my knoweledge, and she has seen her son maybe two times since he moved in August, so she doesn't know first hand.

Ok so when he comes home from the movies tonight I am going to talk to him, see what happens. I'll threaten to move out, i think that will do it, I have the PS2 which he is addicted to. And if I move out, he has the pleasure of putting the bills in his name (and I know he would forget to pay them) if he's smart (oh wait he's not) he will bathe

    Re: Roommate help

Once many years ago, I had a roommate like this. In the 6 months that he lived with me, he NEVER took a shower at the house. He stunk too. He claimed that he took one at the gym or at school after he ran the track. He never looked like he worked out at the gym or could run even a 1/4 of the track. My boyfriend and I called him Stinky. He was gross.
Back when I had issues in confronting people, I started doing stuff that pissed him off. I found out what it would be, in his case banging the kitchen cupboards really loud and I would have really loud sex with my boyfriend.
He asked me not to do it, I told him he stunk. I told him that if he wanted me to knock it off, he had to take a shower and not stink any longer. He didn't. I didn't stop making noises.
Two or three weeks later, he was gone.
It took 4 days to get the stink out of his room.
    I say move.
Oh, I'm over confronting issues now.
