Thumbs up Trip Report - Walt's Barn

First off, a thank you to everyone who came out for this out of the way excursion. It was great seeing familiar faces in my neck of the woods. I had a great time visiting Walt's Barn, and have to admit that it was a wonderfully peaceful excursion compared to the flurry of activity at the usual meets. Now time for some pictures!

Here we are ready to start our day! Stitch and Remy decided to come along too!

The first sign that showed us what we were in store for!

I know this man's first name is Michael, but his last name escapes me. He was there with various sketches on the Disneyland Railroad. Along with him, Walt Disney's first movie star - Alice was there as well.

Below is a link to a short video of one of the guides giving us some information on the Barn ...

After that simple introduction we headed off to the Barn.

Walt's train that he rode around in.

This is part of the original track that ran through Walt Disney's Backyard.

    Some Disneyland memorabilia.

This is Walt's shaving kit which he kept in the barn. He would tinker around the Barn, and to be presentable to guests later in the day had his shaving kit there to spruce himself up.

    Model of the Lilly Belle.

Side view of Walt's Barn. Unfortunately I didn't take a front view, but believe me there were A LOT of people in that little barn.

It was a perfect day to visit, and even moreso with all the trees showing their fall colors around the area. I highly recommend an excursion to everyone - especially if they like trains. Keep in mind though that Walt's Barn is only open on the third Sunday of every month!

    Same here!
Looks wonderful! So sorry I couldn't go.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Thanks Liz. Our family had a great time. We all appreciate you setting this up. After the barn we waited in line an hour to ride the train. We also went to the Griffith Observatory and watched a show in the planetarium. Truly the highlight of our day.

Sorry we didn't join you for dinner. As I have mentioned before I don't like having a big group or our side and we had 6 people including the in-laws. Next time I'll hopefully have only the immediate family and we can be a part of the group every step of the way.

Thanks again and we see you at Disneyland in 2 weeks!

Great idea Liz! My wife and I really enjoyed the day. We also waiting an hour for that train and then spent the rest of the day playing in travel town. My wife was so happy to spend a Sunday doing something new, I wished I could have taken credit for the idea, but I was honest. Thanks again!

I'm glad you both had fun, and I'm sure your kids loved playing around on the trains as well. A change of pace is good every once in a while ... and it was still Disney related!

We also had a great time and I think Todd wanted to move in the Barn. I'm sure we will go back and visit again and hear more stories from the people whose parents actually got to work with Walt.

Here's a couple more photos of you actually taking the video and I tried to get the front of the barn.

After our late lunch at Twohey's we had to stop at the Barnes and Noble and get some more books for Todd.
