Thumbs up THANKSGIVING - My Victory 5K

I was wondering exactly where I should post this information - thought first off about just Walt's Warriors - but then I realized that MANY MANY MANY of you have been an incredible encouragment to me during my bout with cancer this past year. So that said, not only am I sharing this info with my friends in Walt's Warriors, I want to share it with all MiceChatters - as sort of a thank you for your encouragement over the course of this year.

Well, for those of you who do know it, I ran a 5K in Dana Point in the early morning of Thanksgiving, November 22, 2007. It was a victory of sorts because on November 22, 2006, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer. It was a bizarre day, as I recall......because I went in to the hospital for surgery on what 3 doctors told me was an Inguinal Hernia - and I come out instead diagnosed instead with STAGE 2 CANCER. You can imagine my shock - as my wife and I were new parents to our then 5 week old child.......and cancer was NOT something we were prepared for.

This 5K, called the Dana Point Turkey Trot was my way of saying "CANCER CAN'T GET ME" - because to the calendar date, my life is drastically different. I was pronounced in remission on 10/11/07 - so this 5K on Thanksgiving Morning 11/22/07 was a CELEBRATION! I have pictures to share so look on, if you don't mind.

One of the T-Shirts we got for being part of this 5K

My wife and son and I - all ready for the 5K

The Group that ran (wife took this picture, which is why she's not in it)

Cousin Natalie, Vinny, Suzanne and Yours Truly

    __________________________________________________ ________________
It was a great run - and A LOT of people.....oh man, so many people...but everyone out there having a great time, indeed.

Thank you for taking a quick look at my pictures - they may be somewhat boring, but this was my CELEBRATION indeed - and so thankful to be ALIVE.

Thank you all for your year of encouragment to me!

    ~D.D.

This photo is SO adorable, and those 2 next to you, and that amazing attitude of yours, are what helped you beat that monster we know as cancer!!!

Dude Dave, looking at those pictures you don't look like you had cancer at all! You are all buff and like Pratt said "the gun show." Congrats!
