    Christmas Idea

Just thought I'd toss this out for your consideration.

This year I've decided not to give any presents out for Christmas (other than a small one to my nephew).

Instead I am asking family and friends to each pick a charity and I will donate to the charity in their name.

Since I've seen some folks upset about commercialism of Christmas and such I thought I'd suggest it as something to consider doing.

Most of us don't need the stuff and there are lots of charities out there who do have great need and do a lot of good.

I think thats a great idea. I know of companies that will send a card to their employees that lets them know a donation was made in their name to a charity. Then the charity send that person a thank you card or letter for the donation.

My mother-in-law suggested that last year and we didn't follow through with it because her sister-in-law called me and said, "No! Spoil that woman this year!" So we bought her a spa certificate instead.

    I think it's a great idea!

That's what my company did last year in lieu of giving the employees gifts... Well, they gave us a card w/a dollar amount and a code and a website and told us to donate it - we could chose almost any charity.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

The Salvation Army helps all kins of people. They are a very worthy charity.

On the other hand, the United Way sucks. They forced me to give them a portion of my paycheck through one of my past employers - and attempted to coerce me through another employer. Plus, their administraters make about as much as corporate CPOs.

I don't like the Salvation Army due to their anti-gay stance.

I think this is a very good thing - and it would be even better if the charity could be year round........instead of just at Christmas

This is how I see it to. if youre going to be charitable, do it all the time, not just during the holidays. The mission , the food bank, local foster care homes, there are many places for every day needs. What you are doing is awsome, christmas is once a year, being charitable all year is really what its all about in my book. Heck, the animal shelters always are in need of food, and blankets and papers and such. The womans battery shelter is always in need of shampoo, soap, clothing etc.
This weekend we have the anual clothing drive, and the local food bank harvest.

    Re: Christmas Idea

I do charitable contributions throughout the year. In fact, my company has a program where you can have so much taken out of your check for a certain charity (or you can split it), and they will also add an additional 50% to your donation.

Plus we are always giving away clothes and other things to the Retarded Citizens of Ventura County (they have a monthly pick-up).
