After seeing Morrigoon thread, I thought of an ongoing debate me and my friend have. He lives in PA and I‘m in CA, and we talk an the phone a lot. I’ve noticed differences in the way we pronounce and refer to things. Things like “soda.” He calls it “pop.” He says data (with the short “A” sound) and I say data (with the long “A” sound.) Other things include the pronunciation of radiator (Short “A”) and creek (crick). So I was wondering, how do you say these kinds of things and, do you know anything that’s pronounced different?
I think it’s an East/West thing.
