Re: So How's 2007 Been For You So Far?

Well, I lost my job (mortgage) and had to relocate (at least for the time being) to Thousand Oaks.

My car is acting up (dying on the fwy) and mechanics have only a vague idea what it may be. But they sure know how to charge by the hour.

My divorce from wife #2 is still ongoing. Lawyers charge by the hour too.

Wife #1 passed away suddenly in her sleep last Friday. I am hanging out with my 17YO daughter and her stepdad right now. He is the best guy I have ever known and I am so happy to have him in our lives.

Everyone else is healthy and I got to spend X-Mas with all 3 of my daughters, my brother (who lives in VA) and my folks.

I am grateful for the precious friends I have made here and the relationships that have grown stronger over the past year.

All in all, I am glad to bid adieu to '07 and look forward to 2008!

    The cons:

-Former bosses turned into nitpicking psychopaths
-dealing with the nutter co-worker from hell
-dad diagnosed with prostate cancer & had to have surgery
    -close friend passed away
-The Cure postponed their show here until next summer

    The pros:

    -got a new kitty
    -found a better job
-got to visit WDW 4 times
-saw The Police in concert after waiting 23 years

Re: So How's 2007 Been For You So Far?

Overall, I'd say this was a pretty good year for me:

Paid off a serious amount of debt- and will continue to do so
My two beautiful boys remained relatively healthy
The rest of my extended family and I are relatively healthy
    I have a home
We always had enough food (A little too much actually )
We got two really good DL trips in

What more could a girl want?

There were a lot of great things that happened to us this year, personally and professionally, but they were outweighed by, among other things, my wife's miscarriage, my uncle's death, two great-uncle's deaths, one of my associates' mother dying, a client's father dying, a few setbacks in cases, a car accident that has had my car in the shop all month, and a few lesser things. 2007 stunk. I'm ready for 2008.

This year has evened out to about a 50/50. It started out pretty bad, and then a few nice things happened. So I guess I can't complain.

All in all a pretty good year. Short visits to Disneyland in January, April, July, and October. Saw some national parks we hadn't seen before (including Carlsbad Caverns).

And I should pass 8000 miles on the bike tomorrow. I have never ridden that much in a single year.
Have bicycle, will ride. Finished 2012 with 10,089 miles, 683 hours, and 482,000 feet of elevation gain.
    2013: 201 rides, 8171 miles, 544 hours, 480K feet.

Re: So How's 2007 Been For You So Far?

It has been a rough year for me and my family.

First, the trouble started back in late January. My Uncle Tom passed away from Esophogeal Cancer (he was just 40, two weeks shy of his 41st birthday). Me and my parents have been supportive of my Aunt Rozy, who is now a single mother and is trying to raise her-now 28 month old son, Zachery, so it is very tough for us.

In late-July, early August, my Dad's sister, my Aunt Lisa, died while she was with someone in the afternoon. She was cremated, and we held a memorial for her at St. Paul's Catholic Church in La Mirada. The following week, we went to a cemetary in Riverside, and we buried her ashes there.

Also, in late July, my Grandparents made a tough decision to put down thier dog, Murphy. He had been with my Grandparents since 1995, and he was really starting to show his age. He was losing his vision, he couldn't walk much anymore, and he had lost his hearing ability. One night, when Grandpa was taking him for his midnight walk, he had to drag him. It was right here that my Grandparents realized that it was time to put him down. So they put him in a box, and took him to the vet, but while they were taking him, he passed away.

I am just hoping '08 will be better.

I haven't been to St. Paul of the Cross since Msg. Jenks was the pastor and Mike Baker was the associate priest. I have a lot of fond memories from that parish, tainted quite a bit, of course, by the knowledge that Baker was molesting little dudes my age way back in the day.

But there's a good thing about 2007: Baker is going to PMITA prison.

There's been a few good things but overall, I would say 2007 can't end fast enough!

I'm just hoping that the opportunity we think we have fulfills itself in 2008 and we can finally move on with our lives!

Re: So How's 2007 Been For You So Far?

I certainly hope that I am in better health and a better frame of mind. Of course, it's up to me and me alone to do something about those things. Again, though, I will shed no tears when this year comes to an end.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Re: So How's 2007 Been For You So Far?

I know a lot of really nasty things happened in 2007. Like deaths in my family, a company I was heavily invested in had been filing false financial statements and basically it was another ENRON. But it's only money. The other bad things I just don't want to remember. You can't change the past anyway.

Good things happened too: my wife got her dream job and LOVES to go to work in the morning. I only had one heart surgery in 07 instead of the usual 3 or 4. A freshly approved heart drug has regrown ALL my dead heart muscle tissue, basically erasing the effects of 5 heart attacks. And I now have for the first time in over a decade a normal EKG and complete blood flow to ALL my heart. Miraculous!

I'm still alive 2 years after my doc said I'd be dead. Bone ya doc! Been clinically dead 3 times now but I've got too much living to do to stay that way.

I have a wonderful wife, a sweet spirited dog, good friends and a loving family. In debt up to my you know what, but I'm a blessed man. PLUS I got to meet some wonderful Micechatters in person at the Sunday meet. (including the amazing Sadako)

I'm hoping 2008 will be even better!
