This is gonna take me a few days, so please be patient. But here's the beginning.
First Class to Kona, and on Hawaii flights they offer mai tais. So, we had a few Yea, it was 8am Hawaii time but, so what, we were on vacation!
Our first glimpse of Hawaii! That’s the town of Hawi, on the northern part of the Big Island.
The drive to the hotel from the airport. Lots of lava flows. This flow was from 1801!
That’s Mauna Kea, with snow! I can’t tell you how weird it was to be in Hawaii, with temps where we were at in the 80’s, looking up at snow.
The room. It was nice, but next to the elevator machinery. So it was kinda loud with that whirring humming elevator machinery noise.
Our view. If you look REALLY close, you can see the ocean in the distance.
OK, enough with the room, lets drink! We paid for a daily $20 resort card that got you scuba rental, tennis course use, and something else I can’t recall. We used none of those. We got this card for the 2 mai tais (or similar cockatil) a day! Here’s day one! I mean they were $10.95 as it was, so doing this resort card thing was a deal for drinks!
That evening we drove down to Kailua-Kona for dinner. Ate at a place that’s near and dear to my heart, Quinns Almost By The Sea restaurant. On our walk there we passed the oldest church in Hawaii, that dates back to the 1820’s. The moon was just at the right spot so I snapped this shot.
By 9:00 we were exhausted, so we headed back to the hotel for bed.
