My daughter got a cell phone when she was 11 because she began walking to school then and we wanted to have the added security of her having mobile communication.
Now my son, who turns 8 today, and does not yet walk to school, nor is ever without a land line or adult supervision. Keeps asking for a phone. While the expense is not that great to add a line, there is a couple issues at play here, one most, repeat, MOST kids his age do not have mobile phones. Personal responibility is an issue, phones aren't allowed in classrooms.
He's probably not going to get one for few years.
