So, who are the musicians around here?

Ok, I know I'm not the only musician around here. I know Jazzman plays and so does Disneyphile. I've been playing for about 30 years, mostly drums and keyboards. I mainly play jazz, rock and roll, latin, and funk.

So who else around here plays? What instruments, for how long, and what type of music do you play?

I'm a marching percussion Bass Drummer (i.e. drumline Corps style, not Show Style)

I play Bass Guitar, and Double Bass, and I'll be going to the Berklee School of Music in Jan. I play many different styles, but I love Funk, Gospel, and Jazz. Fusion is my current favorite Jazz style though...

I've been playing the flute for 10 years and I played the alto sax for 3 years. I played jazz with the sax and concert and marching with the flute.

I've played the clarinet for 6 years. I'm an active member of my school's wind ensemble, marching band, and jazz band. I'm also a member of the youth band, "The Santa Ana Winds". If you go to just about any parade in SoCal, we're there!

Re: So, who are the musicians around here?

I played Trombone in my high school marching band, jazz band and concert band, and in a few ska bands as well. I have played piano since the age of 4 (I could read music before I could read words!). In high school I started to get into synth pop (pop music made with synthesizers, i.e. Depeche Mode, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, and a bunch of underground bands) so I started into synths. Also in high school I started playing drums and have played in a few punk bands over the years and right now play drums in a experimental noise band based in L.A. called "You Animal" although we have been on hiatus all summer.

But in the last year things have gotten really interesting when I started to explore the wonders of old analog synths and modular synthesis. I have been able to create some really amazing sounds useing synths that are 25 to 30 years old. My current project is called "Audiotronic" and I am working on a set of songs for live preformence that will all be done by myself with my analogs and my computer for a sequencer synced up to video projection. Since I am a student filmmaker I have been trying incorparate my films into my music. I hope to have a set of songs ready in the next 6 months all with a film or video to go with them. "Audiotronic" is a cross between Synth pop, Industrial, Noise, Punk, Ska, Jazz and I know this is going to sound weird but Classical music as well...I don't like to limit myself .

Cool, I'm really enjoying the responses so far. Who knew there were so many musicians around.

Re: So, who are the musicians around here?

Although I haven't played in ages due to time constraints, I'm well-trained in the following:

Piano/Keyboards, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Clarinet, Flute, Guitar

(My keyboard gear consists of: Yamaha DX-7, Oberheim OB-8, MicroMoog, Roland JD-800, Kawai K4r)

I also used to sing, but haven't done that in a long time either.

I've also been doing various percussion in recent drumming circles, and now own about 8 different drums, my favorite being my two djembes.
