Earth Hour 2008

This is a great program that started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. If you want to help the planet and be a better person visit this link below:

This event involves people turning off their lights at 8:00 pm on
March 29,2008. It is a great opportunity for the people of the world to reduce their impact on our Earth. Although it seems like turning off your lights for an hour is insignificant to this planet, it isn't. When you add up the amount of energy not being used by the many people signed up for this event, you see the difference that it makes.

So, do you seem interested?
If so sign up on the above link and join the movement.

Now I know some of you may have some obstacles when trying to turn off all your lights.
For you pet lovers (like me), you might think your pets will be afraid or
hurt themselves when in the dark. Well, ...
- when your lights are off, you might not have that many
activities to do, so just hand with your pets. Both you and
your pet will be comfortable and helping the environment

For those of you with the elderly living in your house (also like me),
you might think they will be confused or nervous in the dark. Well, ...
- you can trick them and tell them there's a power outage, or ...
- the better choice, just tell them the truth and see if they help
the cause (I mean come on, they could always sleep!)

If anything is severly affected by you turning off the lights to the point you can't participate in this event, you can always spread the news and tell your friends and co-workers. That's still making a difference.

wow tassie, now i see how many people in the world don't care about the environment. the thread you posted really shows that people know what makes a difference.
Statements, like "it's not going to do anything" or "ridiculous" "silly" are terrible things to say. All the people that posted on that thread were obvious uneducated because the event in 2007 did a lot of good. It really fustrates me that so many people are ignorant and feel that these small things wont help the planet.

Why can't people understand that the more people participate, more energy will be saved!?! It's not going to risk someone's job or use more power when turning the lights back on! There's no negative to this. One person on that thread said, "the people will use flashlights with disposable batteries." It's called using candles!!!!!!!! Or how about this just go to sleep a little earlier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, I'm not trying to insult anyone including you tassie, but I just think that people don't understand!!

Awesome! Thanks so much for posting this - I had no idea.

Even though it may seem silly, it's the first step to spreading "green awareness". It'll save a lot of power and money, but more importantly, it shows people how much little things can help our earth.
It's more the message that the act makes; not the actual deed.

i always try my best to help save the planet, I dont use much electricity, i save water, recycle, am vegetarian, and now using earth friendly cleaning products. things are slowly becoming more green

Wow that's funny??? I hope you're joking but to make myself clearer i guess i will make it say visit the link and sign up. And if you still think that's not enough i'll put visit the link, sign up, and actually turn your lights off on March 29, at 8pm. is that specific enough for you?

ok, I hope i've cleared this up: you actually have to participate in the event to make a difference not just visit the website.
