Looky what I got today as a gift (Disneyland Railroad Jacket)

I went into my one day a week job and remembered that last week one of the guys in the Billing section told me had found a Disneyland Jacket at a Thrift Store and wanted me to see it. He said it is some kind of Disneyland Railroad Jacket and if I was interested in seeing it, if I would be there today he would bring it in. I said sure I would love to see it. So I go in this morning and he has the jacket. He had me try it on and when it fit he said "It's yours, I got it for you". These people are so amazing sometimes. Today was a good day to go to work.

I have never seen this jacket at Disneyland, have no idea how old it is, but it is a beautiful Levi type Jacket. There is an embroidered patch above the pocket on the left front. Here is a closeup shot of the Patch:

On the back is a combination of Print, Thick Ink for a sculpted look and Embroidery for the main lettering at the bottom and the tiny Mickey Silhouette at the top. I noticed that the picture portion is almost like the poster for the attraction, but the train is named in the lettering, The Ernest S. Marsh. This makes me wonder if this was some special jacket for something going on at Disneyland for this train. Here is the back of the Jacket and the picture portion takes up a good deal of the back of the Jacket. The Patch above is about 2 inches around but the photos make them look the same size.

Does anyone know anything about this jacket? Was it sold at the Park at some point or is it something special. I am just curious and will wear it to a meet when I get the chance to come down again. The tag inside does say Disneyland on it.

Wonderful Bruce. I can't help you with what it's from but it's a very nice jacket.

    Ernest S. Marsh

Ernest S. Marsh was president of the Santa Fe Railway system from 1957 through 1966.

Engine No. 4 of the Disneyland Railroad is named "Ernest S. Marsh", it began service there on July 25, 1959.

I knew the history of the train as I am a big Railroad fan. Thanks for the information though, I wasn't sure which engine number it was. I am just curious about the jacket though.

Thanks Ashee. I can't wait to wear it (and my new Imagineering shirt) out to the Park someday.

I am bumping this back up as I am really hoping that someone out there can tell me something about this jacket. It has a train name on it so it's got to be more than something found in the Emporium or World of Disney. It looks like something sold for a train event, but I don't know. Any help would really be appreciated.

It was part of a whole line of E.S.M. merchandise that was released at Disneyland in 2002. More info here:

Sosai is correct. For some reason, Disney produced a whole slew of train merchandise in 2002. The jacket, a series of pins, coffee mug (which features the same graphics as the jacket--I use mine everytime I pour a cup of coffee), engineer hat and whistle were among the items produced.

The jacket, and, I believe most of the other items, were sold only in the Disneyana shop. (and Wanda, no need to be envious when one has all the items, including said jacket!)

    I should have known, Steve!!!

But I still think you should have bought that gigantic train station banner to put over your house!

Thank you all so much. Now I know the history of my jacket. Everyone who sees it says its amazing that it's in such great condition and was found in a thrift shop and is my size. And then to be found there by a friend who knew my love of trains and picked it up for me. It was just meant to be I guess. Thanks again.
