A Prius is bad for the environment - "Dust to Dust" study

If you take into consideration the manufacture, expected life span, and then disposal of the vehicle, a Prius is one of the worst cars for the enviroment.

    Here is the summary...

    http://cnwmr.com/nss-folder/automoti...Commentary.pdf

The Prius registered an energy cost average of $3.25 per mile driven over its expected lifespan of 100,000 miles... Ironically, a Hummer...did much better, with an energy cost average of $1.95 over its expected lifespan of 300,000 miles.
So Based on the report, it is MUCH better to buy another Toyota product, the Scion xB, which has a 48 cents a mile "energy-cost".

You can find your car at this link

You are aware that this is not a scientific study? It is the product of a marketing research firm - CNW Marketing Research of Bandon, Ore now headed by Art Spinella who is linked from J.D.Powers of advertising fame.

Since I have neither the means nor the time to do an actual scientific study, I cannot contest the accuracy or truth of the report. It does raise a flag though that a marketing firm is behind the study, rather than a group scientists willing to submit their findings to peer review.

We all know marketers and by association, advertisers, NEVER present anything but the pure truth...

Treat the report as marketing, not science.

I don't think many people who buy a Hummer are driving it 300,000 miles.

But a 100,000 mile life expectancy for a Prius??? I find that kind of hard to believe considering I'm driving a 23 year old Toyota Pick-Up with over 150K miles and it's still going strong.

Our "Family" car is $1.305 per mile. Not too bad I guess.

hmmm. interesting. I want to get another car next year. I was considering the Prius...but, I don't want anything smaller than what drive now...Ford Focus. Toyotas are good cars though.

I heard something yesterday that was kinda' scary:
Guide dogs can't hear Priuses (Priusi?) and so they'll walk out in front of the car because they can't hear it. So quite a few guide dogs have died. Apparently Good Morning America was talking about this yesterday...

Actually when reviewed it was found to be pretty accurate.

And then there is the fact that hybrids are more of an environmental problem when involved in accidents. Fire Departments are laying on special training for dealing with the extra hazards of the battery packs at accident scenes.

Poor dogs, I wonder what happened to the people being guided.

I heard something like that. Like the way the fuel line is set up, it's along the outer edge of the car so it poses a real problem for firefighters because they can't use the jaws of life or something or cut into the car in fear of cutting the fuel lines. That's scary.

We were looking at getting a hybrid because the green factor but also because the battery in the car is so heavy it's great for snow. Someone we know up here told us about how her neighbor drives a little Prius without chains in some scary snow and does good because it's so heavy. Instead we're getting a trailblazer.

...again - reviewed by whom? It is in my nature to question data.

The batteries are indeed an issue. I'm glad that there is extra training, as we will be seeing more electric options in the future.

Ah, at last the curtain is lifting. Poor hippies and their "Save the Earth" BS agenda. Keeps getting shot full of holes. Next thing you know, we're going to find out that Manbearpig isn't real and Al Gore has been playing us all along!

But we have to stop those animal/human hybrids over there so we don't have to fight them here...
