    American Graffiti

At 4:30am this morning in my town of Petaluma, a film crew reinacted the famous cop car scene to celebrate the films 35 year anniversay.

I'm sure most people have seen this classic(ask your dad mini Zepp)

This is my dad's favorite movie and one of mine.

I went to see the police car when they unveiled it in Petaluma back in February, pictures found in this set on my Flickr.

The pulling of the axle was the opening of the Salute, which I'll be attending. Going down Friday night for the cruise, then Saturday with my dad for the car show and to meet the stars.

Yea, the city of Modesto was going to try and do some of the same things, but the support just wasn't there.
Not too mention the recent budget shortage and pay raise to the city council.

The "ultimate" plan was too have sights and scenes all over the city from different parts of the film. It slowly fell through the cracks.

It would be cool too see this in Modesto.

    Re: American Graffiti

One of my top ten fav films.

    Spectacular movie!!

And if you have ever "cruised", we did this alot in the late seventies-early eighties from Apple Blossom Festival Wenatchee Avenue cruising to cruising Colby in Everett, cruising Sunset in Edmonds, cruising Karkeek Park, Maguson Park... it was a blast!!! Eventually they shut it all down and the kids stopped. I'm so glad that I got to participate in such an American tradition.

p.s. this is the best soundtrack in film history - IMHO

In Phoenix everyone used to cruise Central Avenue too. I'd forgotten all about it until you mentioned it!

(Now I live in Seattle, so, I kind of know the areas you speak of in your post of cruising.)

In Wenatchee, they had to close it because kids were spraying each other with bleach water as they cruised by, among other problems....I remember cruising there in high school during the Apple Blossom Festival.

I used to cruise the turnaround in Seaside, OR, until they shut that down. Bah. That was my high school hangout until a year or so into college.

I had my kids watch American Graffiti not long ago. It was my dad's favorite movie when I was little and I ended up growing up on Happy Days.

Yeah, the last time I "cruised" the Ave in Wenatchee was 1987, the last time we attended the parade was 2002, my daughter and wife asked me if I wanted to go out and "cruise" on Saturday night, I said, 'oh yeah, wife and kids in a minivan' that's be "cool" Nope those days had past, but it was funny watching the kids continuing the tradition.
