The Pope, The Mafia, and The Sound of Music - More of CPDP's adventures!

I realized it had been quite a while since I had done an update of my European adventures! So - here we go!!
This April my team and I were able to go to Italy for two weeks to work in several schools in various parts of Italy! I Italy and so was super excited to go!
Our first stop was Rome where we worked with the "American Overseas School." We had a few days before we had to be at our next stop so we spent Saturday and half of Sunday exploring Rome! I was really excited to be back in the Spring after having just been in Rome in December! It was MUCH warmer and there were beautiful flowers everywhere!

This is on the motorway on the way into Rome. I LOVE this picture because I got it by sticking my camera out of the window of the van as we drove by at 100KPH


It was a beautiful day - it had been raining ALL week but cleared up just as we got into Rome!

I love Palatine Hill because there are all these random ruins just laying around everywhere! It's pretty cool.

Awesome pictures CP! I love all the detail shots mixed with the "tourist mandated" ones. It shows a side of the places you visit that we chairside tourists don't get to see too often.

I'm glad these turned out as nice as they did because this Dumbo forgot her lil travel tripod at the hotel. I was kicking myself all day - but trashcans and car hoods make great makeshift tripods too

The next day was Sunday and we didn't have to be in Naples till that eve. So we decided to head over to The Vatican to see if we could catch a glimpse of the Pope and Kate, my coworker who is Catholic, wanted to attend Mass....

The Pope! It was pretty cool - he did a blessing and then spoke in English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish. I was unexpectedly moved by the whole thing. I'm not Catholic - but it was pretty cool.

Ok.....That's all I have time for tonight (it's 12:30am...long drive to Munich tomorrow...) but tomorrow will bring you Sicily and hopefully Salzburg too!

Thanks for the comments!! I love my job and the fact that I get to travel so much and I love being able to share some of my experiences with other people through my photography - I'm not the best photographer but I like being able show people where I have been from a different perspective (I hope ) Will post Sicily and Salzburg later!

Thanks for the nice comments folks! And now on to Sicily! We stoped in Naples and in Bari first but we were SUPER busy so I didn't get any pictures really.

This was a church in Palermo and it was FULL of these BEAUTIFUL iconic mosaics!






This is called "The Fountian of Shame" - I don't know a lot about it. But I know that it was put together in Tunisia (which is only like an hour away from Palermo ) and then brought over and placed in this Piazza.


I liked all the statues that made up the fountain - they all were different...










Unfortuniatly because of our schdule we were only able to spend 1 day in Palermo (half of that day spent Performing...) because we had to take the ferry back to Naples that night. And after this picture is where my camera batteries foolishly decided to die. So.......that's I have from Italy....
