Re: June is Pride Month, why not come out on MiceChat!

To those that don't understand why we have a Pride month, let me try to explain it to you from a gayman layman.

Gay men and women have been beaten down for a very long time by the hetero community (not all, but some, and you know who you are) for not being "normal" in their eyes. Normal being falling in love with a member of the opposite sex.

We've been emotionally scarred, by our religions, by family members, some of whom disown us. We're taught that being gay is a sin and that if we don't repent, we'll burn in hell. You know, like Hitler, or the 9/11 terrorists.

For some reason, some people even feel the need to beat us up physically, terrorize us, and occasionally, kill us. Just for not being "normal".

Why? Fright. That's my guess. These religions, family member, terrorists and killers are afraid that by accepting gay people, they themselves might be considered gay, thereby meaning they might be labelled, thereby meaning they might be beaten up, or killed. The only way to take control of their fear is to be the first to beat a gay man down, or call them names, or kill them.

So you see, it's not about "showing off". It's not about parades, or festivals. It's about taking control. It's about stepping up and saying, we're not going anywhere, no matter how many of us you chastize, or bully, or kill. It only makes us stronger. And it makes you look like a complete moron in the process.

So please, we don't need to be preached to. We've heard it all. We're not going to change, because we can't. We're pre-programmed this way. Just try thinking about having a relationship with a member of the same sex and you'll see, you can't change as a straight person. And we don't want you to. Just accept us, deal with it, and maybe, just maybe, you'll end up with some fascinating, life long friends in the process.

Last year I came out on MiceChat, and I can attest to what a caring and supportive community MC is!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Happiness is internal and religion can't/shouldn't be able to stop happiness. If being gay makes you happy, burn in hell for it - I'm willing to burn with anyone who is brave enough to go with what they believe in.

Well obviously I'm not gay since I've been boy crzay ever since I can remember and extra crazy about one boy in particular for the last 21 years. But I love all of the gay friends I have made at this website! I can truly say that they are some of the awesome-est people I know!

I'm confused. Didn't you just get married a few months ago?

And you're right. One of the reasons I stuck around MiceChat since the early days is that from Day One it was a place on the internet where adult Disney fans, no matter who or what they are, had a bit of irreverant fun about their fandom.

It's a shame that every month couldn't be Pride month so that anyone could come out anytime they wanted to and celebrated for it!

Actually, coming out day is in November, I think. June is just Pride month. I'm pretty sure in our handbook it says you can come out whenever you deem it's appropriate. I'll have to go check

Well, ONut, I look forward to the day when Pride Month is unnecessary because nobody cares anymore. Someday, being gay will be considered "not normal" the way left-handedness is "not normal."

Maybe someday, people will just accept the world and everyone in it is 'not normal.'

I feel completely safe coming out as left-handed. At least here, anyway. MiceChat is kind of an awesome place like that.
