Red Face I dropped my retainer in the toilet...

So i was just standing there...umm..dispensing liquid and was thinking, "heh that would be funny if my retainer fell out of my mouth"....you kinda know what happened next. I just moved it around with my tongue unconsciously and it fell out into the bowl.
I spent the last hour scrubbing it with toothpaste, rubbing alcohol, and soaking it in Phosphor (I ran out of Listerine!!!)
Do you think its safe to put back in my mouth or do I need to visit a dentist and get it sanitized?
    Help!

After doing all that I'm sure it is fine, I suggest boiling it for a little while in salt water.

Would do that, but orthodontist HIGHLY recommended against contact with anything hot. If that wasn't the case I would have done that

Hmm, in that case I would evenly coat it with toothpaste and let that sit on there for 10 minutes, scub it for another 5 and rinse it off. Should be good to go.

I buy those denture cleaning tablets to clean my retainer, otherwise I put it in vinegar for awhile then brush it.

From the sound of it though, your retainer should be pretty clean right now with everything you've done.

Just tell him the truth. We all do embarassing things in our life. I am sure there will be other times in your life you will have to explain something unusual that occurs. It is a part of life.

Perhaps a phone call to the dentist first. Explain what happened. It might be less embarassing over the phone. Then the dentist will be able to tell you the proper course of action.

You're probably safe after all you did to clean it ... after all, according to what I have heard and it's confirmed in Wikipedia ...
Urine excreted by healthy kidneys is sterile.

But I'm sure the other residue in the toilet isn't as sterile.
